Cheryl fights tears as she looks ahead to Girls Aloud tour without Sarah

Cheryl fought back tears as she discussed making the Girls Aloud reunion 'magical for Sarah Harding'.

Speaking on The One Show on Friday evening, she admitted: "It's very odd, if I'm completely honest. We've found every step of the way of this a bit weird. Being totally honest it will never be the same as it was." Sarah sadly died in September 2021, after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

As Nadine Coyle comforted her, Cheryl added: "But we are just trying our very best to make it magical with Sarah in mind." Kimberley Walsh chimed in: "We'd had loads of conversations coming up to our 20 year anniversary and obviously those conversations involved Sarah."

Kimberley continued: "So sadly, after she passed away, that went out the window." She then shared how they spent a lot of time together over the summer and felt an outpouring of love towards the group and for Sarah.

Kimberley said: "Suddenly it just felt like, do you know what, maybe we are ready to celebrate those 21 years. And also celebrate her." Cheryl agreed, saying: "Because she wanted to do it so much as well. We're going to honour her the best way we can and make it magical."

This isn't the first time this week that Cheryl has become emotional when speaking about Sarah. Cheryl joined Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Breakfast. She was emotional as she remembered discussing a tour with Sarah.

"I did speak to Sarah one-on-one and she said to me 'I hope you four do something when I'm not here', but in that moment I couldn't entertain that thought." she confessed.

Kimberley chimed in: "We always talk about how much she loved Girls Aloud. She loved it. It was just the best time ever for her, we spoke so much about it the few months before she passed away and how much she loved it, she made us watch old videos."

Earlier this week, Girls Aloud announced their nationwide tour but confirmed they would not release new music. Nadine explained: "There is no new music and there is no video - although we've shot a commercial." Cheryl added: "Making new music without Sarah would be odd. But celebrating what we made together? Fabulous."
