Ten Hag gives Man Utd injury update as Hojlund facing race for Everton clash

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund is in a race against time to be fit for the match against Everton.

The Danish striker missed out on international duty due to a muscle strain but might just make it for Sunday's game, according to United boss Erik ten Hag However, Christian Eriksen won't be joining him on the pitch.

Ten Hag revealed on United's official website: "Christian will take a little bit longer. It will take some weeks until he will return. Rasmus Hojlund, not too bad. Everton will be a close finish, but we're working on that. We're not sure if he can make that but, hopefully, in the next week, he will return to the squad."

If Hojlund doesn't pass his fitness test before Sunday's game, he could be back in action for next Tuesday's Champions' League fixture against Galatasaray in Istanbul. Meanwhile, fellow forward Marcus Rashford will miss the crucial group game due to suspension.

Ten Hag will also be forced to watch Sunday's showdown at Goodison Park from the stands as United confirmed he will serve a one-match touchline ban this weekend after receiving three yellow cards.

Defender Harry Maguire looks certain to keep his place though, despite Raphael Varane being fit again and available for selection. "He [Maguire] took his chance," Ten Hag explained. "We were talking about injured players, he took his chance when Rapha [Varane] was absent.

"There is internal competition, which is normal in big clubs. When your chance comes, you must seize it and the others must fight to find their place."
