Manchester United return to action on Sunday with a trip to struggling Everton, with Erik ten Hag looking to finally kickstart his side's season.

The Red Devils will not be able to climb any higher in the table even if they beat the Toffees, though a win would ease Ten Hag's problems. The Dutchman is coming under increasing pressure for his side's dreadul start to the season, even from senior squad members.

That revolt comes as Mason Mount was urged to finally show why United paid Chelsea £55million for his services and Ten Hag was handed a timely injury boost. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

Mount demand made

Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has insisted Mason Mount needs to finally prove his worth. Mount has failed to score since his £55million move from Chelsea in the summer, a return Berbatov insists is not good enough.

"We all know he needs to step up because he hasn't played well since joining United. So, he's the player I want to see give more and produce more, because in some of the games, it looks like he doesn't know how to fit into that system," Berbatov told Betfair.

"He looks a bit lost from time to time, but we all know the quality he possesses. It's not working out, so now is the opportunity to stay concentrated and just be in the game and start to show the quality you showed at Chelsea. United need that quality to help the team."

United boss Erik ten Hag has been boosted by the news that Luke Shaw has returned to first-team training. The England international has been ruled out since August through an injury he picked up just two games into the season.

He has not featured since the clash with Tottenham missing all of England's last six games as well as all four of his club's Champions League matches. But he has now been spotted back in training in the lead up to the clash with Everton.

It will be welcome news to Ten Hag, who has been forced to improvise at left-back with Tyrell Malacia and Sergio Reguilon both also sidelined. Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat all filled in at the position, with an update on Shaw expected later this week.

Ten Hag faces dressing room revolt

Ten Hag is facing a revolt from his own dressing room, with senior squad members laying the blame at his door for the club's awful start to the season. They have lost five of their opening 10 home games in all competitions, with the team coming under pressure.

But senior members of the dressing room feel they were overworked by Ten Hag in pre-season, which has negatively affected their performances. Several stars have complained of feeling tired following the summer sessions.

Ten Hag is understood to have increased the intensity of his side's training sessions and organised eight friendlies in five different countries. That schedule came after an extended season, which included a winter World Cup.
