A trendy chip shop has hit back at a savage anti-vegan review by selling merchandise featuring the foul-mouthed rant.

The Hip Hop Chip shop was crowned the second-best chippy in the UK back in May. But unlike the traditional chippy, the restaurant sells a large range of plant-based dishes, including vegan fish and chips.

The Manchester venue also hosts live music for customers to enjoy while they eat their food and has a stand at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium for home games. But one furious customer left the restaurant unimpressed. Geoff Lane raced to Google reviews after his visit to the chippy in Ancoats, Manchester.

He fumed: "Overpriced. Overcooked. Full of vegan k*******s. Avoid." Staff from the chip shop were quick to respond to the sweary rant last Friday, writing to him: "You're playing hard to get Geoff, I can tell x." They have since gone the the extra mile and have now printed the savage review on a line of merchandise, including bucket hats, hoodies and aprons. The chippy is also offering 20% off for diners who whisper the colourful phrase to their server.

Vegans looking to embrace it as a badge of honour can also buy a selection of magnets, stickers, and mugs with the quote on it, with prices ranging from £1.02 - £52.06. Proceeds from the sales on Redbubble will be donated towards the charity In Place of War, which uses arts as a "catalyst for positive change" in conflict zones.

The review came amid recent reports that consumers are turning away from vegan substitute foods, with meat-eating also said to be on the rise despite increased publicity for alternative diets. The company behind McDonald's vegan burger, Beyond Meat, recently reported a 9% drop in revenue, while supermarket chains Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons have also made reductions to their vegan offerings instore. But loyal customers in Manchester have praised the restaurant for their hilarious response to the review, as one said: "I love this". "Perfect response," said another, while one fan simply wrote: "Brilliant."
