Woman 'does a runner' after £500 Botox, highlights and facials at beauty salons

A woman is claimed to have walked out of salons after racking up a £500 bill for treatments including Botox, facials and a new hairdo.

The client caused a scandal in the market town of Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, when she left numerous hair and beauty salons where she'd gotten herself an entire glow-up without settling the bill. But after Ring Cam footage was put out by one of the establishments, it's transpired she later returned to humbly pay up.

Ooh La La salon put out an appeal in a bid to find the then-mystery customer after she used a fake name and came in for a £160 haircut and highlights on Thursday afternoon. It was then discovered that the woman had left behind an empty handbag which still appeared to have the price tag on it.

Salon owner Emily Curtis said that, after a post appealing to identify the woman, she had since come forward. "As many of you would have seen our post regarding a client that left without paying a few days ago, we would just like to inform everyone that due to the power of social media, the client has called today and made payment," the salon posted on Facebook.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support following our post. The amount of messages we received was overwhelming, and just people’s kindness in general has taken us by surprise, and we really appreciate peoples kind words, people just popping by to tell us how sorry they are, and even the cakes.

"We have even had people offer to settle the balance for us, which is another level of kindness. It just goes to show what a town and community we have in Bury St Edmunds."

The original appeal saw other beauty businesses in the town say the same thing had happened to them the same day. Nearby aesthetics clinic Enhanced Faces UK said a customer had left without paying for a £200 Botox treatment before the salon incident.

Ooh La La said they now wished to "draw a line" under the scenario. Ms Curtis told Mail Online the woman had called up "crying down the phone" claiming she was suffering from bad mental health issues, with the police also having visited her home.

She said: "She claimed she didn’t do it to any of the other businesses and we asked her why she did it she said embarrassment because she had no money." However, Sophia Lorenzo who owned one of the other businesses in the town, said the woman had claimed to have paid but, when looking at the salon's account, the money was still yet to appear.

"Losing the money isn't good but it's more I've lost trust in people," the 31-year-old told the title. "As a business it makes you not trust other clients and now I'm thinking of having to take cash up front."

The debacle follows several recent high-profile incidents of businesses naming and shaming customers who left without paying. Last week, a restaurant in East Yorkshire shared CCTV of a group of 'posh pensioners' who racked up a £100 food and drink bill before making a beeline for the door while staff were distracted.

Another party with 12 children ate their way through a £260 feast at a pub in Cornwall before making a hasty exit. The family were then shamed into returning and settling the bill after a similar appeal was shared on Facebook.
