Baldur's Gate 3 free trial means PS Plus members can sample 2023’s best
One of 2023’s best reviewed RPGs and obvious game-of-the-year candidate can now be sampled for free on PS5, providing you’re subbed to PS Plus’ highest tier.
I’ll admit, even though Baldur’s Gate 3 is technically playable on the Steam Deck, I can’t shake the belief that experiencing it on PS5 in handheld mode via the newly released PlayStation Portal might be the ideal way to play. Sadly, I don’t currently own Sony’s hot new portable device, but I know that if I did I’d now give it a go, given that PlayStation has just introduced a way to trial Larian Studios’ epic RPG for free for certain players.
All you need to play the first two hours of Baldur’s Gate 3 for free on PS5 is a PS Plus Premium subscription. The offer has just popped up as a new perk on the PlayStation Store today, available as part of the subscription tier’s Game Trial benefit. So yes, the Baldur’s Gate 3 free trial is a limited one, but luckily once the time has elapsed and you’re sure you want to keep playing one of 2023’s biggest hits, you can rest easy that your save and trophy progress will carry on over into your full purchase.
It's yet another string to the bow of PS Plus Premium, the most expensive tier of PlayStation’s recently revamped game subscription service that also offers access to a rotating library of games, the ability to cloud stream those and an additional library of classic titles from the PSP, PS2 and PS1 catalogue. If any of these perks, in addition to the Baldur’s Gate 3 free trial, aren’t enough to tempt you into a PS Plus subscription, the PlayStation Store shows that Lord of the Rings: Gollum (aka one of 2023’s worst games) also receives a free trial from today.
Pearly gate
Baldur’s Gate 3 remains the one to beat in terms of 2023 game-of-the-year contenders. Although yet to enjoy a launch on Xbox consoles due to issues getting the local co-op to work, it’s remained the hot topic of conversation amongst critics and players, beating out the likes of Starfield and even Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as we head into the end of the year. This PS Plus Premium free trial will surely get subscribers to at least see what all the fuss is about.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingIn addition to the PlayStation Portal arguably making Baldur’s Gate 3 easier and more convenient to play on PS5, Larian recently also revealed that the game will soon be getting a physical release across all platforms – including Xbox Series X|S. This all but confirms that I’ll soon be picking up Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 as a champion of physical media. I don’t require a PS Plus Premium Baldur’s Gate 3 free trial to know that one of the biggest games of the year is worth jumping into, but it’s now nice to have the option.
