A man has shared a word of warning to people who purchase copy-paste home furnishings, saying it's a dead giveaway that the homeowner has bought into a lazy 'monoculture’. TikToker Drake Pooley has gone viral after sharing his thoughts on popular home decor and accessories, as users jump in his comment section to thank him for 'saying what they've all been thinking'.

In his video, he said: "These are the things that if I see it in your apartment, I am judging you. I may lose some friends over this. I think this Tom Ford coffee table book may have made Tom Ford more money than anything he’s ever done in his fashion career.

"I have a rule with this coffee table book where if you could name three facts about Tom Ford you get to keep this,” Drake said, criticising those who have shelled out £70 ($87) for the catalog of Tom Ford’s design work for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent from 1994 to 2004. This book has been seen in many influencers’ and lifestyle bloggers’ homes.

“Number two, any art that shows up on the first page of Amazon’s wall art search. I have zero qualms about cheap art. Actually, the cheapest way to do it is to go to the National Gallery and find something that doesn’t have any royalties on it anymore and go print it out,” he said, giving his viewers, a cheap but worthwhile way to fill your home with meaningful art, that may reflect the homeowner’s personality.

“If you pick something from the first page,” he complains, “Like we all know it and see it. I want to know something about your home, this tells me literally nothing.” Which typically includes colourless reproductions of Henri Matise and Picasso artworks. Number three, Aesop everything - like you can have a few things. But if like literally everything that could be in your home is Aesop.” He continues, taking aim at the expensive, Australian luxury hand soap that fetches £35 ($44) a bottle.

“You just fell straight for the marketing. All the stuff is not the best out of that category. Pick the things that work of that category, don’t just buy it because the stores are really aesthetic.” Drake said, criticizing those who might have gone too far kitting their bathrooms out with all things Aesop.

“Same vein, this specific [Baies] candle from Diptyque.” He said, picking out the most popular seller from the luxury fragrance and candle brand. A full-size Baies candle retails for £56 ($70). “Diptyque has so many good candles, is this the only one you’re buying? I’m wondering why,” he questioned.

The Baies candle is Lebron James’ favourite scent, the candle burning in Ritz-Carlton’s lobby and was Harry and Meghan’s wedding scent, according to Mecca. “And also, if all of your candles are only from Diptyque - I guess you have the money?” Drake said. “Yes I own a candle from Diptyque, but I also own candles from Target. They’re all intermixed.” Expressing disdain for those who display a try-hard loyalty to the overly expensive candle brand.

“And last one, these coffee table books. They’re so lacking any personality which is funny because they’re just screaming at you.” He said, describing the colourful Assouline destination coffee table book series, that cost £85 ($106) each. It’s fine if you have these for a place that’s special to you, but if you just have the monoculture, top vacation destinations like San Tropez, St Barts. I’m like what, do you have a personality or do you just go with what everybody else wants you to do?”

He closes the hilarious video with, “I’ve been meaning to get that off my chest for a while.” Drake’s video has got more than two million views and thousands of comments. Many viewers agreed with his claims and even added to his list. “That Tom Ford coffee table book makes me sick,” one viewer commented.

Another added, “You forgot the Hermes throw.” To which Drake responded, “I almost included this.” While some viewers felt Pooley’s words hit close to home. “Wow, I feel judged. I own the Tom Ford book and Diptyque candles,” one admitted.
