A 14-year-old girl wept in the dock today as she faced a charge of attempted murder.

The youth, who cannot be identified due to her age, is also accused of possession of a bladed article. A court heard the teenager stabbed another girl, who was rushed to hospital with serious injuries on Thursday.

It is alleged the defendant then went to the home of another person, armed with a knife and stabbed the other person five times. The case was referred to Swansea Crown Court, where the girl will appear on Monday December 18.

Sitting at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court today, district judge Stephen Harmes was told the alleged offence is said to have happened on Thursday November 17 in a village near Abercraf, Powys in Wales.

Crying in the dock and wearing a grey sweater, the teenager did not enter a plea at this stage, Wales Online reports.

The court was told the youth was arrested at 2.30am on Friday November 17 when she was allegedly found with a different knife on her person. An order was made to protect the identities of the defendant and the victim.
