Everton legend Duncan Ferguson is adamant his beloved Blues will survive despite their 10-point deduction by the Premier League.

Everton were docked 10 points on Friday - plunging them into the relegation zone with just four points - for breaching the League’s FFP rules. The Blues have vowed to appeal their hefty points deduction and Ferguson, who is manager of Caledonia Thistle in his native Scotland, is stunned by the penalty.

Ferguson is impressed by Everton’s renaissance under manager Sean Dyche and they have taken 10 points from their last five games, losing just once. The former striker believes they are on the right path under Dyche and is confident they will climb to safety.

“How good are they doing at the moment?” Ferguson told BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound. “Unfortunately, they got the points deduction, which I knew was coming, but they’ll still be safe. They’ve got a good enough squad, no problem.”

Everton supporters have raised more than £33,000 to fund protests against the penalty and Ferguson is not surprised by their actions. The Scot says they are the most loyal fans around and backed them to “just keep supporting the club, as they always do”.

Ferguson, who also served the club as first-team coach and caretaker boss, said: “They are the most loyal supporters in the land. They’ve had a few knocks over the years, to say the least.

“They’re a resilient bunch, the Scousers down there, and Everton will be well safe this year. I don’t know the ins and outs of what the problem is, but 10 points does seem heavy.

“Obviously, they will appeal it, and hopefully they can get that reduced.”
