Manchester United legend David Beckham is keen to make former Red Devils star David de Gea the next major signing at Inter Miami.

De Gea remains without a club four months after he was released by United when his contract expired, following 12 years at Old Trafford. United boss Erik ten Hag was keen to bring in a goalkeeper who was better with the ball at his feet and the club forked out £47million to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan as his replacement.

De Gea, meanwhile, has been linked with a number of clubs following his departure but has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. And the Daily Star are now reporting that the Spaniard could be on his way to the MLS.

According to the report, De Gea has a number of offers on the table including one from Beckham. The 33-year-old has already rejected a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League and also has interest from several Spanish clubs, including Real Betis and Valencia.

However, Beckham is said to be 'quietly optimistic' De Gea could join Inter Miami. He already pulled off a major coup earlier this year by tempting Lionel Messi to America, with fellow former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba also joining the club on free transfers.

As Inter Miami's co-owner, Beckham played a major role in securing Messi's signature and revealed last month that he had been working on the transfer for four years. In an appearance on former teammate Gary Neville's 'Stick to Football' podcast, Beckham said: "When I started this journey, ten years ago, announcing that I was starting a team in Miami, my vision was always to bring the best players.

"I suppose as an owner of a team, you always want to bring in the best players, but the chance of bringing in the best, is difficult and always challenging. But then, I sneaked into Messi's dad's hotel about four years ago in Barcelona for a meeting with him and obviously, at that point, we weren't ready to bring him in and he wasn't ready to come.

"I turned around to his dad and said, 'we want your son, we want him to come to Miami when he's ready, and if that's a possibility'. We continued the conversations, and with my partners, Jorge Mas and Jose [Mas], we just worked on it for about four years.

"When he was at PSG [Paris Saint-Germain], we saw an opportunity and he was either going to go back to Barcelona [or to Miami], but then suddenly, everything aligned, and we were still having the conversations."
