Like lots of couples, the Prince and Princess of Wales have idyllic nicknames for each other. But Princess Kate had one cheeky nickname for her husband which she wouldn't be able to get away with using nowadays.

The pair have had different nicknames for one another for the duration of their twenty year relationship, and Prince William was previously heard referring to his wife as "Babykins" of "DoD", which is a shortened version of the joke name Duchess of Dolittle.

But the Princess' names for her husband are a little more risqué. The Sun reports that Princess Kate calls her husband "Baldy" and "Big Willy". At engagements recently, the pair have been known to utilise more conservative names which are more suited to a professional setting.

Back in 2016 at the Chelsea Flower Show the couple were heard calling each other "babe" and "darling". Landscape gardener Charlie Albone told Grazia UK that William asked Kate about a plant, and she replied, "Babe, we've got those. We've got loads of those".

At the same show, designers told HELLO! that William stopped to look at some poppies and then asked his wife, "Could you make one of these, darling?" As a young man, Prince William had plenty of nicknames, and was given many by his mother Princess Diana, as well as acquiring some during his university days.

Having enrolled as "William Wales" at the University of St Andrews, he decided to be known as Steve. Other nicknames include Wombat, which was allegedly given to him by his late mother when he was a kid, and now he simply "can't get rid of" it.

He spoke about his mother's unusual nickname during an interview with NBC in 2007. He said: "It began when I was two. I've been rightfully told because I can’t remember back that far, but when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal, so I just basically got called that, not because I look like a wombat, or maybe I do."

Alongside the nicknames they have for each other, the pair also have some adorable ones for their children- 10-year-old Prince George, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five. Prince George's classmates apparently called him PG Tips, because of his initials, and the young Prince then wanted to also be called it outside of school.

Kate has been known to call Princess Charlotte 'Lottie' and William was once heard calling her 'Mignonette' which means "small, sweet and delicate". The royals refer to Prince Louis as 'Lou-Lou' at home, which is a sweet nickname given to him by his siblings when he was born.
