Meghan Markle may be 'relieved' to spend Christmas away from Royals after 'snub'

Meghan Markle may be feeling "relieved" over the prospect of not reuniting with the Royal Family at Christmas, amid an ongoing estrangement.

It comes following the suggestion that Meghan, 42, and Prince Harry, 39, are unlikely to reunite with his family for the festive occasion. It's expected that they will be in the US for Christmas rather than return to the UK.

The speculation comes after the couple were reportedly 'snubbed' from attending the birthday celebration of his father King Charles III, now 75, this week. It was initially reported that Prince Harry had turned down an invitation.

A spokesperson for them however told the Daily Mail prior to the celebration: "There has been no contact regarding an invitation to His Majesty’s upcoming birthday. It is disappointing the Sunday Times has misreported this story."

The Mirror's royal editor Russell Myers said about the situation: "They wanted it to be known that there was still no contact between them. They were putting it out actively to say that he has had no contact from anyone, his father or the Palace, and that just tells you a lot about the relationship."

Whilst royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has reportedly teased it's unlikely that Prince Harry and Meghan will spend Christmas with his family. He told GB News: "I suspect there is a mixture of emotions there. That will certainly not change now. They have no base in Britain, things have reached that stage, it is not good. The rift means there is no such possibility at the moment."

Amid the speculation, the Mirror spoke to relationship expert Louella Alderson about the prospect of Harry and Meghan, who have two children together, not reuniting with his family for Christmas. Louella told us: "Meghan may not want to reconcile with the Royal Family after the way she feels she was treated by them and the British media.

"She may see this as an opportunity to distance herself even further from them and focus on building a happy life with her family in America. Meghan may feel relieved that she doesn't have to return to the UK any time soon and face the Royal Family.

"Regardless of her feelings, it's likely that she wants to prioritise her mental health and well-being, as well as the happiness of her family. For Meghan, this could mean keeping their distance for now and reconciling when all parties are ready for a genuine and positive reunion."
