A golf caddie at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California received CPR after collapsing on Friday.

The PGA Tour competition is playing a host to a number of golf stars including US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick and Jordan Spieth, as well as a number of celebrity faces such as ex-Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

Play resumed on Friday morning with ESPN writer Paolo Uggetti reporting on social media that a man collapsed on the 11th fairway before receiving CPR on the course.

He was stretchered to an ambulance with play stopping and discussions taking place with tournament officials on what the next steps would be.

The PGA Tour confirmed a man had collapsed, with the unnamed caddie part of the fourball involving pro players Beau Hossler and Max McGreevy and amateurs Lukas Nelson and Geoff Couch.

A statement read: "During the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, there was a medical emergency at No.11 at Pebble Beach involving an amateur's caddie. The caddie has been rushed to Montage Health for evaluation.

"At the direction of the PGA Tour Rules Committee, the players in that group - Max McGreevy and Beau Hossler - paused play during the medical emergency and will be allowed to warm up and resume their round shortly."

McGreevy is reported to have said the group tried to get the bag off of the caddie immediately after he had collapsed so CPR treatment could be performed.

It is reported that the players expressed their desire to stop playing the round after the incident and held talks with PGA Tour officials while on the course, who offered them the chance to step aside.

The competition got underway on Thursday with amateur players taking to the course alongside their professional partners, before the fourball events across the weekend.

Bale, who shot a seven-under-par alongside partner Joseph Bramlett, is joined by actors Bill Murray and Jason Bateman, and NFL star Aaron Rodgers at the competition.
