I'm a huge fan of outdoor clothing. From walking trousers to down jackets, I find it all so comfortable I basically wear it every day.

It's pricey stuff though. A decent coat can cost upwards of £200, a comfortable pair of shoes that will last can be at least £100, and have you seen the price of quality outdoor trousers recently?

Happily, though, one of my favourite stores for browsing the latest lines, Go Outdoors, has just announced its line-up of Black Friday deals - and I'm finding it really hard not to get my credit card out.

There's an important caveat to mention with Go Outdoors. You need to be a member to unlock any of the deals I'm about to list. And membership costs £5 per year.

In some cases that can take even a deal price beyond what you might pay elsewhere, but it is Black Friday after all, and the deals I've spotted really will take some beating. So it's probably worth signing up.

Here are the best discounts I can find at Go Outdoors as we count down to Black Friday.

1.Peter Storm Men's Parka III and Women's Paloma Parka III Jacket - was £160, now £49

Parkas are perfect for the autumn months. Windproof and waterproof, their insulation and a big selection of pockets make them so practical.

This one comes with the classic faux-fur hood, which is stylish and warm, and will keep the wind and rain out.

One reviewer did say the zip on this coat is fiddly, which is often the case with this type of coat. Let's just say it's an acquired skill.

2. Peter Storm Men's and Women's Blisco Insulated Jacket - was £79, now £19

Synthetic coats like this can be useful for an extra layer in extreme cold, or they can just be used on milder days for a bit of warmth. They're lightweight, comfortable and much cheaper than down jackets. This one's less than £20, which is a great price.

Bear in mind jackets like this will only be water-resistant to some extent, and you'll need to treat them regularly to keep up that resistance.

3. OEX Men's and Women's Kintra Down Jacket - was, £220, now £79

This is a great price for a technical down jacket. Down jackets are so light and flexible, it's no wonder they've become so popular.

Normally, a good one will cost at least £150, but this one's been discounted from its original price of £220, so it's great value.

Reviewers rave about how warm it keeps them, and how well the price compares to other brands.

4. Peter Storm Malham Men's and Women's Stretch Waterproof Jacket - was £120, now £39

This looks like a really useful top layer on soggy days, and there's a massive discount over its original price.

Don't expect miracles in terms of its ability to keep you dry in really heavy rain, and remember you'll need to treat it at least once a year to keep it resistant.

But if you're after a cheap jacket for rainy days out, this could be a good bet.

5. North Ridge Tech II Men's and Women's Down Jacket - was £200, now £69

Another huge discount for another attractive down jacket from a well-established brand. Soft pocket linings are welcome at this price, and I like the fact it has adjustable cuffs and a removable hood.

It's worth noting though, that 550-fill down insulation isn't overly dense, so this is perhaps better suited to chilly autumn days rather than winter freezes.

6. Regatta women's Elender Insulated Parka - was £130, now £49

My wife loves these longline coats, and they're very trendy. It's not often you see a branded one for less than £50, but here we go.

I know she'd choose the green one, but the black one's quite nice. It's also interesting to see it's synthetic fibre-filled, rather than duck down. Good for allergy sufferers, and you shouldn't notice a big difference in insulation.

There are no drawstrings for the hood, so there's a chance it'll blow off on a breezy day, but keep the collar zipped and you should be OK.

7. North Ridge Women's Latitude Insulated Parka - was £250, now £90

A windproof and waterproof layer like this can be so handy for general day-to-day use. Wear it over a decent fleece or lightweight down jacket and it'll also be handy on very cold days.

It's a shame there's only one colour option, because grey won't thrill everyone, but it's a nice coat for a sensible price.

8. Merrell Men's and Women's Accentor Sport 3 GTX - was £140, now £69

I'm on my second pair of these. The last pair lasted two years and I wear them literally every day, in all kinds of conditions. They are my favourite shoe by a mile. My wife has a pair too. She doesn't wear them as often, but hers are three-and-a-half years old, and only just starting to look tired.

The Gore-Tex inclusion does give some peace of mind, but it is possible to overwhelm the waterproof layer in seriously wet conditions. But for day-to-day use, they're just superb. And at this price, I might just grab another pair.

9. Hi-Tec Men's and Women's Aysgarth III Mid Waterproof Boots - was £125, now £39

If you like a bit of ankle support from your footwear, this is a really good price for some everyday waterproof boots. No Gore-Tex at this price, but they look well made and they do have Hi-Tec's Dry-Tec water resistance.

What they lack in visual appeal, they make up for in a very grippy sole and toe protection.

These could be a great option for every day boots on a budget.

Amazon has also started offering its Black Friday discounts early, including some discounts on jackets. Mountain Warehouse has also launched a Black Friday sale, including 50% off this Seasons II Mens Padded Jacket which is now £39.99.
