Netflix viewers have been left furious over the streaming giant's decision to axe five shows after seven months of Hollywood strikes slowed filming.

As the historic Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) double strike came to an end, Netflix made the final calls over the future of four different series that have only had one season so far. These include Glamorous, alongside animated series Agent Elvis, Farzar and Captain Fall.

However, fans have been left shocked over the decision to not bring back Shadow and Bone despite the second series featuring at the top of Netflix's most-watched list. The fantasy show is based on a book series by Leigh Bardugo and centres around Alina Starkov, an orphaned map-maker who realises that she has special gifts.

As well as cancelling the series, Netflix has pulled the plug on the Six of Crows spin-off that had been planned. Fans aired their frustration over the decision on X, formally known as Twitter.

A third vented: "Gutted to hear that Shadow & Bone has been cancelled. I thought the show was fabulous," and another added: "Netflix what are you doing Shadow & Bone is one of your best shows."

Author Leigh Bardugo took to Instagram to share her "disappointment" as the news. She wrote: "Friends, by now you've probably heard that there will be no season three for Shadow and Bone and no Six of Crows spinoff. The news hit me hard. I'm heartbroken and deeply disappointed, but I'm also trying to hold onto my very real gratitude.

"Most authors never get to see their work adapted. Many who do end up regretting the experience. I'm one of the lucky few who can look at an adaptation with pride and tremendous joy. I am so grateful to our writers, our crew, and our extraordinary cast who are not just wildly talented, but genuinely good people.

"Most of all I want to saw how grateful I am to the folks reading this – whether you found your way to the books first or discovered them through the show. The Grishaverse is a better place because of you and I am so thankful for every tweet, post, comment, review, artwork, fic, tatoo and cosplay that helped to make all of this possible.

"We're book people and that means we never stop imagining that magic can be made real. You are proof of that. Now, I'm going to go have a cry, and maybe a drink, and then see where the story takes us next."
