A British holidaymaker has been arrested over the killing of his wife after allegedly stabbing her with a screwdriver .

Ayan Mohamed Dhoba, 26, was found dead by horrified hotel staff in Istanbul, Turkey yesterday. Staff forced their way into the room after reportedly hearing screams. They found Ayan lying in a pool of blood having suffered several stab wounds, local media reports. Police have since taken her husband, who is only named as Ahmet Yasin M, into custody.

The 28-year-old was reportedly found in blood-soaked T-shirt after a day of searching. Video shared in Turkish media shows the suspect leaving the hotel after the alleged murder. In another clip, he is flanked by two officers while in handcuffs as he is led down the steps of a police station.

The husband was reported to have tossed the screwdriver in the toilet after allegedly killing his wife. He is also said to have confessed to the murder, claiming his wife gave him drugs on the day and that an argument had ensued between the couple, Sabah.com reports.

Other media reports say the couple had arrived in Istanbul from England three days earlier for holiday. The investigation is ongoing.

Last week, we reported how a British mum was tragically "crushed" to death by a Mini Cooper while on holiday in Turkey. Patricia Bernadette Ward, from Middlesbrough, Teesside, died after being hit by a car while visiting Gümbet, Bodrum, with her friend. The pair were walking through an area filled with clubs and bars at around 2.15am on June 6, 2022, when tragedy struck.

The 67-year-old victim, who "loved life, sun and going on holiday", was hit by the vehicle and pinned between a nightclub wall and the Mini, an inquest at Teesside Coroner's Court on Thursday heard. She was taken to hospital but later passed away.

Ms Ward's friend, who she was on holiday with, provided a statement to the coroner's service and Turkish police following the incident. She stated that the pair were staying at the Parkim hotel in Gümbet and the incident happened at around 2.15am.

The two women were walking to The Central Bar and were across from Alora nightclub when the collision occurred. She estimated that she was around a "one to two step distance" between her pal when a "white Mini Cooper" hit Ms Ward.
