A Centre Parcs worker died from a traumatic skull fracture and brain injuries after the pedal bike she was riding was hit by an electric off-road buggy driven by a colleague, an inquest heard today.

Penny Bulpitt, 67, a supervisor at the Woburn Forest Resort in Bedfordshire was struck by a Yamaha UTV driven by another member of staff on Friday September 22 this year. The resort says it is working closely with all the relevant authorities following the team member's death, the fourth person to lose their life at one of the locations inside a year.

Coroner's officer Natalie Shirran told the inquest opening in Ampthill that the grandmother, who lived in Luton, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance. She didn't recover from her injuries and died the following day.

"She suffered significant head trauma and was airlifted to hospital and sadly passed away the following day," she said.
The cause of death was given as severe traumatic skull fracture and brain injuries. Her death was the second at the Woburn Forest park in side two months after a teenage boy died when after falling from his skateboard.

Dr Sean Cummings, an assistant coroner for Bedfordshire, adjourned the inquest pending the outcome of a police investigation. He passed his condolences to Penny Bulpitt's family and friends. In a tribute her family said "she was loved by everyone who knew her."

At the time of her death, Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler said: "Both people involved in the incident were staff at the site and we are working with Center Parcs directly. We know that Friday was a changeover day so the site would have been busy and we would encourage anyone who was on the site at the time, and particularly in the Pine area, to come forward with any they may have witnessed."

Centre Parcs said in a statement that they will offer support to the tragic worker's family as well as friends and colleagues: They said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of or team at Woburn Forest, our thoughts are with her family, friends and her colleagues at this time.

"We are in contact with her family, and we are offering support to them and any of our colleagues at Woburn Forest who have been affected. Center Parcs is working closely with all the relevant authorities following this incident."

In November, a 17-year-old died after falling off a skateboard. In June, a woman in her 30s also lost her life following a medical incident at the Elveden Forest resort. In 2022, a four-year-old boy died at the Wiltshire resort on Christmas Eve. He was believed to have suffered a “serious medical incident” at a swimming pool in the holiday village at Longleat Forest.
