Lionel Messi's wife may have left slip that a reunion with old friends Luis Suarez and his partner could be on the cards in the coming months in the US.

The former Barcelona pair had a close relationship on and off the pitch during their glittering spell together at Camp Nou between 2014 and 2020. Speculation that they could link up once again at Inter Miami has ramped up in recent months, with Suarez's contract at Gremio set to expire at the end of the year.

Rumours that the former Liverpool ace will head to South Beach have also only been aided by the arrivals of two other former Blaugrana greats following Messi's move stateside. Now, it appears that the World Cup winner's wife Antonela Roccuzzo is openly pining for a reunion with Suarez and his partner Sofía Balbi.

Taking to Instagram, Antonela wished marked Sofia's 34th birthday by posting a throwback picture of the pair enjoying a girls' night out during their days together in Catalonia. In what could be taken as a veiled hint at an upcoming reunion, the snap's caption read: "I miss you! We have to renew our photos."

Previously, Suarez has spoken about the close bond the two families share, saying: "With Leo [Messi] the friendship will always be off the field, on the field everyone has their own goal," adding "going out to eat with the women is a plus, because you know that when you go out with your friends, your wife is going to be accompanied, something that is difficult."

Whether the quartet will be able to pick up their clearly close-knit relationship in person in Florida at the beginning of next year does remain to be seen. What is for certain is that Suarez is currently expected to depart his current club in December after Gremio agreed to cut down his contract by a year.

Since then, the former Barcelona marksman has continued to make his mark in Porto Alegre, notching 26 times in 49 appearances in his only season with the club. The 36-year-old forward also bagged a hat-trick during in a dramatic 4-3 win versus Botafogo recently.

He previously explained: "I feel that next year I will not be able to perform due to my fitness and the high demands of the Brazilian championship."

Miami boss Gerardo Martino has already outlined that he and his coaching staff have already been preparing for the Uruguayan's potential arrival. Although he did concede that allowances have been made for a deal with the veteran forward not being completed, he did not deny that David Beckham securing Suarez's services was a possibility.

Speaking at a press conference before the end of the season, he said: "Within our analysis of the upcoming season, and the needs we may have, we have an analysis with Luis and an analysis without Luis. So when the moment arrives to make Suarez’s situation with respect to Inter Miami official, we’ll be prepared to go in the corresponding direction."
