Good Morning Britain viewers have called for Ed Balls to be fired after he became embroiled in a furious row with Owen Jones that turned very personal this morning.

The former Shadow Chancellor often sits alongside Susanna Reid on the ITV morning programme, but his co-anchor was forced to step in and stop the pair after the debate on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas turned into a bitter spat.

Things became heated when Owen went on to claim that the media were refusing to describe the Israel attacks as a war crime. But as Susanna cut to Shadow Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, things took off and hit a new level.

Ed fumed: "So if you say it is Keir Stamer, Rishi Sunak and the whole media establishment including me and Susanna [Reid]," before Owen responded: "I didn't talk about you two. I'm in the media too, so how would that make any sense? I said the vast majority of the media is supporting what Israel is doing and refusing to call out war crimes, that's a fact."

However, as Susanna cut to Mr Streeting, as the screens changed, Ed commented: "So intellectually second-rate," as Owen fumed: "So childish!" Reid, however, was left with no choice but interjected adding: "Can we not?"

"Grow up, you're just not professional, you're acting in an unprofessional way, you should grow up!" fumed Owen. Prior to this, the pair were at loggerheads after Ed branded Owen a "gaslighter."

He commented: "The gas lighter extreme, Mr Owen Jones appears on GMB," before Jones, a columnist for The Guardian quipped back: "I know I'm used to being interrogated like I'm a cabinet minister, even though I'm just a journalist at The Guardian just trying to make the point that there are serious war crimes...

"Collective punishment, as the UN Secretary-General has said, the bombing of hospitals three nurses yesterday, killed by the Israeli attacks, a hospital surrounded with no energy. Whilst in northern Gaza, there has been the obliteration of more than two Hiroshima bombs worth of bonds dropped on an area."

Former Strictly star Ed continued: "Which do you think we are complicit in?" Owen responded: "I'm saying most of the media," before Edd questioned: "What and we are?" But as Owen continued to state that he wasn't talking about Good Morning Britain in general, he went on to say: "Yes, you're right. I'm talking about most of the media and most newspapers in this country have openly supported Israel. Ed, what is this bizarre game you're trying to play?"

Viewers have since taken to X, formerly known as Twitter and called for Ed to be sacked from his position on the show. One said: "No fan of Owen, but the performance I have just watched from Ed Balls has made me physically sick. I don't think I have ever watched anything on TV and been this upset. He reduced it down to some personal confrontation the smirking wasn't too much."

A second fumed: "#gmb need to get rid of Ed Balls. He can't present for s*** and he's a childish debater. Well done to @OwenJones84 for holding his own." As a third typed: "Ed Balls did not like our politicians & media being called out by @OwenJones84 on #GMB this morning."
