David Beckham's boots from iconic fixture up for auction but with annoying error

A pair of David Beckham’s worn football boots are set to go up for auction and could demand up to £3,000 despite a glaring mistake.

The Adidas Predators were worn by the former England captain for the famous Three Lions’ clash against Italy during a qualifying clash for the 1998 World Cup. England travelled to Rome needing a point to qualify for the tournament and secured a 0-0 draw.

While the boots are iconic, there is however one massive problem. Instead of being adorned with Beckham’s well-known nickname ‘Becks’ on the tongue, they have ‘Beck’s’ stitched in.

Despite the error, the pair are expected to command around £2000 to £3000 when they are sold by Hanson's Auctioneers on November 14. Speaking about the upcoming auction, Charles Hanson, owner of the company said: “David Beckham has long been one of England’s biggest superstars.

“But right now his profile is higher than ever due to the success of Netflix documentary, Beckham. Millions of viewers are fascinated by his life story and some are discovering how special he is for the first time.

“His showbiz lifestyle and success post-football keep him in the public eye but it all began thanks to his ability to kick a ball. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see his football boots surpass estimate - they’re a rare memento of a brilliant player."

While Beckham helped England to the 1998 World Cup, it did not quite go to plan for the former Manchester United star. At the age of just 23, he was controversially sent off against Argentina after kicking out at Diego Simeone.

During his recent Netflix documentary, Beckham opened up on the mental torture that he endured in the aftermath of the incident - something that he still thinks about to this day. He said: “Now, at 48 years old, I beat myself up about it.”

“I made a stupid mistake. It changed my life,” Beckham added. "I felt very vulnerable and alone. I don't think I have ever talked about it just because I can't. I find it hard to talk through what I went through because it was so extreme. The whole country hated me. Hated me."

Away from the pair of Adidas boots going up for sale, there is more Beckham memorabilia up for grabs. A 1999 Manchester United home shirt with ‘Beckham 7’ on the back is included in the auction.

The shirt is brand new with tags and has 'Premiership Champions F.A. Cup Winners Champions League Winners 1998-99’ stitched around the Red Devils logo. It is expected to fetch around £80 to £100.
