Man Utd flop scores stunning goal after 'stealing' free-kick from Ronaldo

Ex- Manchester United star Alex Telles scored a stunning free-kick in Al-Nassr’s latest success against Al-Wehda, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo watching in awe.

The current Saudi Pro League runners-up secured a 3-1 success away from home on Saturday - their 10th win of the campaign from their opening 13 matches. It leaves them four points behind current leaders Al-Hilal.

Former Red Devil Telles got the scoring under way with a brilliant effort from a free-kick. Al-Nassr were awarded the free-kick early in the clash. Telles stood over the ball with Ronaldo and Anderson Talisca - with the former looking as though he was going to have a try himself.

Instead, Telles took on the responsibility and curled a brilliant left-footed effort into the bottom corner. It represented the 30-year-old’s first goal for Al-Nassr since leaving Man United for Saudi Arabia.

His strike also comes just a week after he had explained how the decision over who would be taking free-kicks was made at the club. “It’s easy when Cristiano is on the ball [for a free-kick],” Telles admitted. “We let him decide if he wants to hit it or not. Obviously, it depends on the position.

“Cristiano likes to hit certain areas of the pitch. I like to practice a lot. [Anderson] Talisca also likes to practice a lot so we always talk about it.

“In the last game, for example, Talisca asked if I wanted to take a free-kick but I saw he was confident too so this time Talisca takes it. Next time I’ll take it.

“So I believe there’s a positive relationship between us and I think that it’s also good for us not to have an ego and not to be envious or jealous. Everyone is here to win, everyone here is on the same path. So I think the opportunity will come.

“If Ronaldo doesn’t take it, Talisca will, if he doesn’t, I will. The club wins since it has many good free kick takers. The goal obviously is to win everything.”

Abdulelah Al-Amri extended Al-Nassr’s lead against Al-Wehda minutes before half-time. While he wasn’t able to fire home a free-kick, Ronaldo still had time to get on the scoresheet.

He profited from a poor header back and prodded home his 13th goal of the campaign and 30th overall for Al-Nassr since his explosive exit from Man United. The veteran forward is set to be in action over the international break after being named in Roberto Martinez ’s latest Portugal squad.

The 2016 European champions will be aiming to extend their perfect start to qualifying for next summer’s tournament. Portugal take on Liechtenstein and Iceland with eight wins from as many games so far.
