March organiser says Armistice Day is "appropriate day" to hold protests
Lindsey German, the national convenor of the Stop the War Coalition, has organised the pro-Palestine march set to take place in the capital tomorrow.
The march coincides with Armistice Day, and a number of Tory politicians have said it should have been banned to prevent it disrupting the national memorial day.
Ms German told Sky News she thinks that the group has to keep demonstrating due to the severity of the situation in Gaza.
"We felt that with what's happening in Gaza and what continues to happen in Gaza, the number of deaths, the civilians now fleeing to the south... that we have to keep demonstrating," she says.
When asked about accusations that the march is disrespectful, she said that the two minute's silence is the only part of the event that is observed throughout the country, and that other events continue as normal.
"Armistice Day itself, there's a two minute silence which people respect, but everything else goes on as normal - there's eight football matches," she says.
"We don't think it's inappropriate to have it on that day and we're calling for a ceasefire, which is actually what an armistice is.
"So in a way, it's quite an appropriate day to be remembering the dead of the past, but also to say we don't want the wars of the present to continue."
