“It’s really nice to be part of your community, and have a relationship with your customers,” Jay, 34, says.

“They usually call me by my first name when they come in. There’s no better feeling than when someone thanks you for your help.”

Which common health concerns can a Boots pharmacist advise you on?

“Boots pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer clinical advice on many common minor health concerns such as body pains, sore throats and earaches.

At this time of year, we see a lot of customers with cold and flu-like symptoms. We can advise you in-store and provide self care tips, or suggest over-the-counter products.”

What if the symptoms suggest it’s something more serious?

“We always discuss a patient’s symptoms and what medication they’re taking, if any. Part of our clinical questioning is to make sure your issue is not something more serious.

If it is, we’ll signpost you to a GP, or if it’s something that requires immediate attention, will suggest a visit to A&E or to call 111. We always make sure we are sending patients to the right place.”
