Last chance to get your nominations in for the People's Pet Awards
Calling all animal lovers – this is your last chance to nominate a pet or animal hero in your life for the Mirror People’s Pet Awards with Webbox.
Celebrating the unique bond we share with our pets, we’re looking for animals big and small, pets who have saved and transformed lives, rescue animals who have overcome incredible odds, and those who keep us company, keep us fit and share their unconditional love whatever we’re facing in our lives.
Already we’ve been inundated with incredible nominations from across the country, while our dedicated team of researchers has unearthed jaw-dropping tales of heroism and dedication from the nation’s furry friends, with everything from cats and dogs to horses, rabbits and reptiles in the running.
Among some brilliant nominations so far is West Highland Terrier Pumpkin, the driving force behind the charity ‘Pumpkin & Friends’ which offers support to disabled dogs. The pooch, who uses a wheelchair to get around, is a registered therapy dog and has visited nursing homes and schools, bringing joy to those she meets.
Internet hit Jack Russell Quirky Burtie is also on the list, with nominators praising his fun-loving character and adventurous antics. Caring cat Zebby is in there too, after news earlier this year of the two-year-old moggy’s ability to help his owner, who is deaf, by tapping her to alert her to sounds around the house.

With eight categories to choose from – Dog of the Year, Cat of the Year, Animal Hero, Young Animal Hero, Best Rescue, Inspiration Award, Caring Animal and the all-important Webbox Joy of Pets Award – to choose from, there are plenty of options to get the pet in your life, or a true human-animal hero, on the list.
Last year’s winners included Cat of the Year Mr London Meow, a hospital therapy cat loved by patients, staff and thousands of social media followers as well as Best Rescue Reggie, a cocker spaniel saved by volunteers, including a local drainage company, after firefighters were unable to reach him.
Nominations for the 2023 Mirror People’s Pet Awards close tonight (November 10), so get your entry in before midnight and tell us all about your amazing pet or person and why they deserve to win an award.
Our team will consider every nomination before a shortlist goes to the Mirror’s People’s Pet Awards judging panel who will choose who they feel are the most deserving winners, with results announced in the Daily Mirror in the coming weeks.

Homeless cat dubbed 'Nanny Mcphee' after discovering she has two noses
The four-year-old cat has two nosesWhen homeless cat Nanny McPhee was handed into a rescue centre, staff and volunteers thought she had a larger-than-average nose.
In fact, after a check-up, vets revealed it’s not actually one nose, but two, due to a rare congenital abnormality. The four-year-old was taken to Cats Protection’s Warrington Adoption Centre with two other felines after their owner was no longer able to look after them.
The rare condition is down to a congenital abnormalityCats Protection’s Fiona Brockbank said: “This is a real rarity and, thankfully, it isn’t causing her any problems at all.”
Centre Manager Lindsay Kerr said: “We have all fallen in love with our one-of-a-kind Nanny McPhee. We can’t stop looking at her two noses.”

Edinburgh dog walker praises stranger for daring rescue after dog 'swept away'
Natalie with her dog Sadie.A dog owner has thanked a mystery hero who saved her dog from being washed away down a stream and into the sea. Natalie Tracey was out for a lunchtime walk in an Edinburgh park with her dog Sadie when the pooch made a beeline for a pond despite Natalie’s efforts to keep her away from the water. Sadie was then swept away down a fast-moving burn.
While Natalie gave chase, she was unable to access the burn because of trees and bushes, before she spotted a man on the water’s edge, who waded into the water to rescue Sadie.
Natalie said: “He ended up fully going in, soaked to past his knees and grabbed her. She was swimming so fast against the tide but couldn’t get out without his help. The burn leads to Portobello beach and if she kept going down any further she would’ve disappeared under a tunnel.
“I then was obviously saying thanks so much and asking are you okay? But he just carried on his way he was a legend.”
