Tottenham are set to be without James Maddison and Micky van de Ven until the new year, manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.

Both players were forced off through injury during Spurs' Monday night defeat against Chelsea. Van de Ven went down with a hamstring problem just before half-time, with Maddison suffering an injury of his own around the same point in the game.

Postecoglou must already do without the suspended Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie at Wolves on Saturday, while Richarlison has undergone surgery.

"Micky, we knew was fairly significant," the manager said. "Probably a couple of months for him, looking to the New Year. Madders, a lot worse than we thought. Sent him off for a scan.. probably into the New Year for him."

Postecoglou also confirmed Richarlison will be out of action for a month after surgery on his public bone. There is some positive news though with Ben Davies back available and likely to start in central defence.

Spurs had already been dealt some significant injury blows before Monday's match. Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon are both out with knee problems, while Ryan Sessegnon - who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury during pre-season - still some way off a return.

The situation may end up forcing Postecoglou to make greater use of Rodrigo Bentancur and Davies after their own injury woes. Bentancur, who came on as a substitute on Monday night, returned in late October after suffering a torn cruciate ligament last season.

Spurs' latest update on Maddison comes after the former Leicester midfielder was withdrawn from England's squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia. Gareth Southgate's team have already booked their place in next summer's Euros in Germany, but the boss had named a strong squad as he gears up for the final two qualifying games.
