I'm A Celebrity fears as shotgun-wielding criminal on the run close to camp
A shotgun-wielding would-be robber is on the loose near the I'm A Celebrity camp after he fired a bullet and was then chased out of a petrol station.
Police are on the hunt for an armed man who confronted staff and customers at a service station before an extraordinary act of bravery saved the pair. The terrifying situation unfolded in Tweed Valley Way, Murwillumbah which is around a ten minute drive from the I'm A Celebrity camp base where the celebs will stay for up to three weeks when the ITV show launches next Sunday.
The man, wearing an orange bucket hat, strode to the counter and shot at the roof before the woman courageously came out from behind the counter and confronted him. The store’s manager, Kim Hall, told Aussie TV station Channel Nine news the man ran out while the woman chased him away.
Nobody was injured, and the man drove off in a white vehicle empty-handed. But he has not been caught and the first celebrities taking part in the hit show, fronted by Ant and Dec, are due to arrive later this weekend.
Officers from Tweed-Byron Police District have launched an investigation into the incident, which happened on October 24, and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Police attempted to stop the man as he drove across Murwillumbah but eventually had to terminate pursuit of the vehicle for safety reasons.
