Amy Dowden has been hailed by her Strictly Come Dancing co-stars as she finishing her eighth and final round of chemotherapy.

Amy shared that she "cried all morning" after the brave star reached a major milestone in her battle against breast cancer. The 33-year-old dancer, who announced in June that she had undergone a mastectomy after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, has been keeping her fans updated on every step of her journey.

The popular ballroom pro posted a video on Instagram of the moment she rang a chemotherapy bell - signifying the end of her gruelling treatment. Her friends and colleagues rushed to say well done and there were plenty of comments from Strictly stars and the show's fans after her triumphant clip.

In her latest post, Amy was seen outside the hospital holding up eight fingers to signify her "last chemo". She wrote: "It's chemo number 8! The last one! We are finally here." She added: "I've cried all morning! Right an afternoon of chemo and then I'm so lucky and grateful to be able to ring that bell.

"Will never take it for granted! Thank you to the incredible Sheldon Unit! You are all amazing # nhs, all #trueheroes. Right here goes! See you all later." Her friend, McFly singer Tom Fletcher, commented: "Thinking of you today! Go ring that bell!!!"

More fans also sent their well wishes, with one writing: "Aww fantastic, sending love", while another said: "You are utterly amazing, can't wait to see you ringing the bell." Amy recently appeared on the Stand Up To Cancer live show at the Francis Crick Institute to celebrate a decade of the appeal for Cancer Research UK.

Amy, looking as stunning as ever, told host Davina McCall last week that she had her final chemotherapy session and was excited to "ring that chemo bell". She shared: "It has been the toughest year of my life but I'm just really hoping with the surgery that I've already had and the chemo that I've done enough. I've had sepsis, blood clots, I've had to have hormone treatment then been put into menopause."

"When I sat in that room and the doctors said, 'Amy, yes you have cancer', that was one stab, and then, 'What's your fertility plans?', because I've got an oestrogen-fed cancer and they need to shut my ovaries down, basically, and my husband is next to me and we've only been married a couple of months."
