Two police officers were given their very own "Hot Fuzz" moment when they were tasked with chasing a wild swan out on the streets of Hampshire.

Back in 2007, Sean Pegg, playing hardened Copper, Sergeant Angel, and his partner, PC Danny Butterman, played by Nick Frost, pursued a rogue swan, that had escaped from a castle, owned by a PI Staker, who the protagonist initially referred to as 'P**s taker', thinking he was making the situation up. The whole fiasco was so far-fetched that even fictional characters didn't take it seriously. Therefore, when two officers from Hampshire Constabulary received the call, they must have thought it was a joke. But it wasn't.

While they probably didn't attempt impressions of the animal or stop midway through to get a Cornetto, the two partners had a very real situation on their hands, that required the utmost professionalism. After responding to a call about "a swan in distress", the duo's search began, with them eventually finding the graceful creature on a busy road near a roundabout in Portsmouth.

Luckily, they managed to retrieve the lost animal, before wrapping it in a warm jacket, before the female police officer picked it up and posed for a photo with a beaming smile across her face. She proceeded to carry the swan back to its natural habitat before releasing the big-footed bird into the water, watching in awe as it re-joined its five-strong family in the Hilsea Lido.

In a statement posted on Facebook, they wrote: "This evening, the team responded to a report of a concern for welfare of an animal in the middle of the road. The following description was given.... "Its about two feet tall, long slender neck, kinda orange and black bill. Anything else?

"Well, It's a Swan. We are pleased to say we managed to locate and reunite the Swan with its family at the Hilsea Lido."
