Meghan's 'sad' reaction when she learnt of William's 'physical attack' on Harry

Prince Harry claims Meghan Markle "wasn't that surprised, and wasn't all that angry" to learn he had been "knocked to the floor" by his older brother Prince William in an alleged "attack".

In a leaked extract from his upcoming memoir, Spare, which has been seen by the Guardian, Harry details a meeting at Kensington Palace which he claims turned physical leaving him "dazed" and covered in "scrapes and bruises".

He also claims that after the incident happened, William turned to him and said: "You don’t need to tell Meg about this."

Harry claims he didn't tell his wife at first, but had no choice once she saw the bruises.

He writes that she "wasn’t that surprised, and wasn’t all that angry." Instead, Harry claims his wife was "terribly sad".

Harry claims the confrontation happened at Nottingham Cottage, his bachelor pad which became his first home with Meghan before they moved to the US.

He claims the meeting was set up in an attempt to discuss the "whole rolling catastrophe" of their worsening relationship, however things quickly became heated.

Harry claims he offered his brother a glass of water when things became confrontational, but says William then "attacked" him.

He writes: "He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me."

He then writes that William told him to hit back, but Harry refused so William left, but later returned looking "regretful". Harry says he later apologised.

However he then claims that before leaving the second time, William said: "You don’t need to tell Meg about this."

Harry's highly-anticipated book hits the shelves on Tuesday, and sources have claimed William and Princess Kate will be hit the hardest.

Ahead of the release, Harry has given two TV interviews which will air this weekend.

Promoting the book, the publisher writes: "It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

"For Harry, this is that story at last.

"With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."

Kensington Palace has declined to comment on the allegations made in the book.

This story is based off a translated version of Prince Harry ’s book Spare.
