Teacher, 31, 'sexually abused 14-year-old boy 20 times including in classroom'
A teacher has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy 20 times including in the classroom.
Melissa Marie Curtis, 31, is accused of beginning an illegal sexual relationship with the young male in 2015 over a four month period. A former student at Montgomery Village Middle School was 14-years-old when the middle school teacher allegedly engaged in sexual acts with him while he was a minor.
Curtis was 22 when the alleged crime took place, on more than 20 occasions - including in a classroom. The investigation began after the 8th grade pupil approached the authorities - and accused her of engaging in sexual acts in a classroom, in the car and in various other locations within Montgomery County.

The former teacher - who handed herself in on Tuesday as part of the inquiry - allegedly gave the boy cannabis and alcohol while he was a student, according to police documents. The offences took place when Curtis had been a teacher for two years in Montgomery County including at Lakelands Park Middle School, Montgomery County Department of Police said.

Having turned herself in to the police department on November 7, Curtis now awaits a bond hearing.
Montgomery County Public Schools said Curtis had not been teaching in the county since 2017. But detectives believe there may yet be more victims who have not come forward. They encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of abuse by Melissa Marie Curtis to call 240-773-5400.

A statement issued by the Montgomery County Department of Police said: “On Thursday, October 5, 2023, the Montgomery County Department of Police - Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by an adult male victim. The victim alleges that he had engaged in sexual acts with 31-year-old Melissa Marie Curtis of Upper Marlboro, when he was a minor.

The incidents continued for several months while the victim was a student at Montgomery Village Middle School, and Curtis was a teacher at the same school. All of the incidents took place within Montgomery County.
“A warrant for Melissa Curtis's arrest was obtained on Tuesday, October 31, charging her with sexual abuse of a minor and multiple counts of third and fourth-degree sexual offenses. Curtis had been a teacher for approximately two years in Montgomery County and taught at Lakelands Park Middle School as well.
“SVID detectives suspect that there may be additional victims and would like to speak with them. Detectives encourage potential victims to call 240-773-5400. Curtis turned herself in on Tuesday, November 7, and is currently awaiting a bond hearing.”
