Cleaning the toilet has to be one of the most unpleasant household chores around but unfortunately, it’s got to be done. However, now getting your porcelain throne sparkling white could cost you less than 4p a time.

In a viral TikTok video, one cleaning expert has revealed how using denture tablets can make excessive scrubbing a thing of the past. Home Reimagined, who boasts 411,700 followers on the platform, shared their technique with fans.

Over the top of a video showing how they go about cleaning toilets. The voiceover recommends dropping in one or two denture tablets and letting them sit for at least 10 minutes and up to 30 minutes before scrubbing the bowl with a toilet brush.”

The account also advises removing the toilet seat to really get under the gross bit of the bracket and clean away any sludge or built-up limescale. Another top tip Home Reimagined recommends is to put the toilet brush under the seat when finished to allow it to dry and not go mouldy in its holder.

A box of Steradent Active Plus 136 denture tablets costs £5 from Boots, which equates to less than 4p per tablet. Or if you are shopping in the US, it's possible to get a box of Polident 3 Minute Antibacterial Denture Cleanser Tablets from Walmart for $6.44 for 120, which comes to five cents per tablet.

This isn't the only toilet cleaning tip that people are currently raving about. Posted anonymously on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks group on Facebook asking for advice on how best to treat an unpleasant brown stain at the bottom of the bowl, they were quickly inundated with comments and suggestions.

They explained: "Please don't judge me. I have tried so many things on this toilet, limescale removers, bleach, white vinegar, bottle of coke but nothing is shifting it. It's basically been stained I think where my kids don't always remember to flush the toilet. I hate it and want a nice white toilet again."

Fellow users were quick to offer up solutions for the person's issue, with one in particular a stand-out remedy: Harpic Power Plus Active Tablets. "Black Harpic tablets overnight," recommended one person. While another user, revealed she uses the product on a weekly basis: "Harpic plus limescale remover tablets. I pop one in my toilet every week keeps it looking sparkling."

Someone else agreed that it is a great option that doesn't involve laborious scrubbing. They wrote: "Harpic tablets the only thing I've found gets rid of that. It's limescale from living in a hard water area. Happens to my son's toilet. One Harpic tablet left a couple of hours gets rid completely no scrubbing needed!"

The Harpic Power Plus Active Tablets - which come in a black package - are available at many retailers, including Tesco, Asda and B&M - where they cost about 37p per tablet. You can also grab this failsafe product at online retailers like Amazon for the same good-value price.
