Charity cafe owner replaces huge sign after people point out funny error
The owner of a charity cafe in Nottinghamshire was forced to change a sign listing the services offered after a funny mistake was pointed out.
The Halo Coffee House on Linkmel Road in Eastwood had a large banner that said it was open on "Wednesdays + Tuesdays". A photo of the banner was posted online by local Simon Clarke in the Facebook group "Dull Men's Club".
He captioned the photo: "On our daily walk we pass this signage advertising their homemade cake and the coffee. I refuse to go in on our return journey until they sort it out. It really fries my mind."
Cafe owner Tracy Newton found it amusing, saying: "I have to say it really brightened my day!" The post from November 3 was seen by hundreds of people in just two days - and while some people did not notice the "error", others criticised Mr Clarke for being picky.
Some people guessed that the cafe initially only opened on Wednesdays, and instead of getting a new sign, they just updated it when they began opening on Tuesdays. The truth came out when Tracy, the manager of Halo Coffee House, saw the post and confirmed this, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

She responded: "Oh my!! This has made my day - I am the manager of said Halo Coffee House - and you are correct in thinking that we did indeed first open on a Wednesday and then begin to open on a Tuesday also. From this week we have also started opening on a Thursday so you can now come and join us on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.30am - 1.30pm. Or do I mean Wednesday, Tuesday, Thursday??"
Halo Coffee House is a not-for-profit business, with all earnings going to local and global charities, including free school uniforms, Easter egg donations, and the shoebox appeal. Last week, kids ate for free during half-term.
The cafe serves both sweet and savoury items, with all savoury dishes being homemade. Hot food includes what Tracy calls a "cracking" lasagne, beef stew and dumplings, and homemade leek and potato soup served with "proper big bread".
Tea and various coffees like cappuccinos, lattes, and flat whites are all available for £2. A slice of cake to go with it costs £3.50.
The cafe, according to Tracy, provides a cosy indoor seating area and takeaway service. She even offers a free cuppa to anyone who claims to be a "member" of the Dull Men's Club.
Simon responded to her post, saying: "Thanks for taking the sign down - I was crying with laughter when I saw it on my walk. Sounds like you could be busy. I didn't mean to cause any offence. If I did I apologise. I will come in for a hot chocolate now."
Tracy has since removed the original banner, commenting: "You will be delighted to hear that our brand new (and hopefully correct) banner will be arriving shortly. In the meantime, feel free to pop in and please come and visit us soon! Thank you all so much."
