Having the correct table manners isn't something most people get right straightaway. It can sometimes take ages for a person to learn how to conduct themselves around the dinner table, as it can be particularly hard to grow out of old habits.

While the list of dos and don'ts is endless, there is one thing you should avoid at all costs: being a loud and messy eater. However, this can seem impossible as eating certain foods can easily create a mess. Thankfully, one etiquette expert has revealed the correct way to eat peas without the vegetable spilling all over you - and it turns out we've been scoffing them all wrong our whole lives.

William Hanson shared a video to Instagram, the foodie says you should spear peas onto their forks instead of attempting to scoop them up. While demonstrating the technique, he said: "You're probably eating your peas incorrectly.

"We never shovel them onto the underside of the fork and bring them up to the mouth because they fly everywhere. Instead, using the back of your knife, push and spear some peas onto the tines of your fork. You'll have a neat little collection which you can eat with ease!"

His followers quickly thanked him for his helpful tip. One of his fans wrote: "Not even joking, this genuinely some of the most useful information that I've ever gotten from Instagram." another person said.

However, some expressed they would never find themselves in such a situation. One person revealed they'd found another similar method to avoid the peas going everywhere. They said: "Or get your mashed potatoes and use that to dip your peas to without losing a single one of them." "I'm just going to use a spoon - it'll also prevent my knife and fork from scratching across a plate," a woman added.

Previously, the expert has shared the correct method to make beans on toast. In collaboration with Heinz, William said he was going to teach people how to eat beans on toast in a "quintessentially British manner" in a Tiktok video. He said: "When having beans on toast, don't drown your toast with beans, this is not your local lido. A good butter, unsalted of course because we're not heathens, will ensure it keeps its crisp crunch." Heinz even commented on the video, writing: "There are two types of people in the world. Those who add butter to their beans on toast and those who don't."
