Jake Paul has been backed to defeat Paddy Pimblett if the pair do battle in the boxing ring.

YouTube star Paul has been involved in several social media feuds during his time in combat sports including UFC rising star Pimblett, who accused the content creator of "fixing" his fights. The pair went back and forth on social media, with Paul suggesting the pair spar at his gym in Puerto Rico with a $1 million prize on the line.

Pimblett agreed to the offer but was unable to travel while in the US for his win over Jared Gordon in December, so instead proposed the pair do it at the UFC's Performance Institute. The pair's war of words online appears to be over and it seems unlikely that a high-profile sparring match will now take place.

However UFC star Tom Aspinall has suggested that Paul has shown his ability in the sport and would expect him to prevail if they met competitively. “If they're going to spar boxing it's going to be a tough time for Paddy because I think Jake Paul is a decent level professional boxer while Paddy is a good level MMA fighter," Aspinall told OLBG when discussing a meeting between the pair.

"But if it's just boxing Jake Paul is going to get the better of him for sure. I think he's pretty good, everyone thinks he's a YouTuber but it does not mean he can't fight. He's just beat Anderson Silva. He might be a 48-year-old MMA fighter but he'd still outbox most of the UFC roster. He's a good, experienced fighter that can box and Paul beat him so fair play that's a good win.

"I know Paddy personally and he's just being himself and fair play to anybody who is being themselves in the media. I know some people definitely try and play a character but Paddy definitely does not do that because I know him personally.”

Paul has made a habit of picking fights with stars from the UFC roster having regularly trolled the likes of Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz and Pimblett. The Liverpudlian has made it clear in the past that he would be open to a clash in the boxing ring, but it would be highly unlikely to be soon while he is tied down to a contract with the UFC.

However UFC bantamweight Sean O'Malley has warned Pimblett that he will suffer a devastating loss if he does touch gloves with the 'Problem Child'. "Jake's a lot bigger than Paddy, a better and cleaner boxer," O'Malley said on his podcast. "Jake probably f***s Paddy up in a boxing match, especially after watching his fight with Gordon.

"It's weird because Paddy has decent technique but when it comes to throwing punches in the cage, he throws from his hip or doesn't land the punches cleanly. There was a picture going round with five different frames of Paddy throwing punches, all the punches were landing on Gordon's gloves."
