Strictly Come Dancing fans were amused to see professional dancer Neil Jones lose his composure during Saturday night’s show - as judges handed out harsh scores to legendary broadcaster Angela Rippon.

The 41-year-old pro dancer was standing behind 79-year-old presenter Angela and her 27-year-old dance partner Kai Widdrington while they awaited the judges scores following their Waltz. The judges were split with their scores - with Craig Revel Horwood handing out 7 points, Motsi Mabuse gave 8 and Anton Du Beke dished out another 7.

But head judge Shirley Ballas was miserly with her point allocation - giving the couple just 6 points meaning their grand total was a relatively low 28 out of a potential 40. Many viewers were stunned by the low scores after Angela and Kai strutted across the ballroom floor to a rendition of the Nat King Cole classic song Fascination.

And it seems Neil was equally shocked - and he pulled an expression of horror as the low points were awarded. Fans of Strictly took to social media to express their own amusement at his reaction - with one fan on X branding his response “the face of the series.”

Another viewer commented online: “Neil being outraged over Angela and Kai's scores” with lots of crying laughing faces. And a third remarked: “Loved Neil's reactions to Angela & Kai's scores” alongside by a crying-with-lauhghter emoji.

When giving feedback, Anton had been relatively complementary to the dance duo. He said during a feedback segment: “It was beautiful and elegant, as we come to expect from you. It was a little abrupt because the side steps weren't quite large enough.”

He continued: “It was elegant, it was lovely. I could have done with a bit more flow, but as I say that's because the sidestep wasn't quite wide enough, but other than just a lovely dance.”

And Motsi said: “That was a very classical waltz. I love it when we dance a complete dance the way you exceed the competition. And you look beautiful in his arm. You look like it's so easy to dance with him and whatever happens, it always looks like it's not too much for you, it's always at ease.”

She added: “I feel today, could we have pushed it a little bit more? Could we have given it a little bit more so we don't play it safe? We are in the middle of the competition and we're searching for our finalists, so if there is any more to give, please give.”

Shirley criticised the dance, saying it needed to “draw in a little bit”, while Craig barked: “I thought your footwork was a little bit wobbly my darling and the frame just became a little bit loose.”

However, he did also add: “You know what? You always bring to the dance floor style and elegance.” Angela and Kai not the lowest scoring couple of the night - as Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu, and Adam Thomas and Luba Mushtuk both scored a total of 27 points each.
