GB News guest, Michael Crick was kicked out of the studio last night (Nov 4) after telling presenter Neil Oliver that Ofcom should "shut down" the channel.

Crick was a founding member of Channel 4 News, where he worked from 1982 to 1990 when he left to join the BBC. A staunch critic of bias in TV journalism, the 65-year-old was discussing media censorship with the panel on Saturday evening, as a guest on Neil Oliver's show. When Oliver suggested Crick's previous comments that GB News should be shut down is a form of media censorship, the former Newsnight host doubled-down, saying the channel is "biased and right-wing".

He said: "I've been fighting bias in television for a very long time, and it's one of the reasons I left Channel 4 News cause I thought it was left-wing bias, and I think Ofcom, which is one of the weakest institutions on the planet, should get a grip on you lot. It's absurd that you have Tory MP, after Tory MP, after Tory MP, two leaders of the Brexit party, and hardly Labour MPs – you are a right-wing channel and the rules in this country are very clear."

Oliver tried to defend the output of GB News, saying: "I don't think you can deny that the channel has made space for all kinds of voices, left and right."

"They're predominately on the right," Crick retorted. "I mean look at when Nigel Farage takes the week off, who replaces him? The leader of Reform UK. Out of 67 million people in this country you could choose to replace him, you choose his successor, the Reform Party leader."

Oliver could be heard trying to move on from Crick's criticism, while the camera moved away from the guest, but he could be heard out-of-shot reeling off a list of Tory MPs who appear on the show, with Oliver awkwardly telling viewers: "Bear with us."

The clip was shared thousands of times online, with X users branding it "beautiful irony" that he was kicked off air during a discussion about media censorship.

Crick took to X later last night to explain what happened after. Crick wrote: "I've just been expelled from GB News studio after being invited there to criticise Brian Rose, 2021 London mayoral candidate, & then - when asked why I thought Ofcom should close GBNews down - I said because it's a right-wing channel dominated by Tory & Brexit Party politicians. The overall topic - freedom of speech."

He added: "Eventually, during a break, an angry producer of the programme marched in and said 'Out', and pointing at me, 'You, Out!' He said I'd refused to 'move on', in terms of topic. Gosh, he was furious. So anyway, I left. No doubt GB News will post the full exchanges on here shortly."

The Mirror has contacted GB News for comment.
