A McDonald's customer was left enraged after being charged a staggering $16 for a burger, fries and drink, as many saying the cult fast food chain is longer affordable.

Influencer Christopher Olive has more than 400,000 followers and went on TikTok to vent his annoyance at being forced to pay $16 for a 'happy meal'.

In the video, Olive, who resides in Idaho, can be heard saying: "So I understand there's a labour shortage, wage increases, and a number of other factors. But $16? $16 for a burger, a large fries, and a drink? It's just crazy! The video was first posted last year in December and has since gone viral with McDonald's reporting a 14 per cent increase in revenue to $6.69billion on Monday.

Under Olive's post, plenty of people voiced their outrage and disappointment that the burger chain is no longer a cheap option. One person wrote: "Companies know they can get these prices now so they’ll never go back. doesn’t matter who’s in office."

Another said: "They could easily eat those costs but they know people will still pay." Someone else wrote: 'It’s officially not convenient or affordable anymore."

But other social media users rushed to defend the fast food outlet. For example, one person wrote: "Bro ordered the most expensive meal they have and acted surprised."

Several people encouraged Olive to download the McDonald's mobile app: "Download the app. You can literally eat McDonald's for under $6 every time."

The video has been viewed more than 600 thousand times, with 31.6 thousand likes. But Olive is not the only disgruntled customer.

Anne Arroyo from Ohio was angry about the food chain's 'out-of-hand' price increases recently. She showed that whilst the fast food restaurant advertised a "dollar menu", every item was price above $1.

In her video, which has been watched more than 300,000 times, she furiously vented against McDonald's for allowing its prices to "get out of hand." In the video which showed a close-up of the food available for purchase, she said: "McDonald's has a dollar menu right now without a single item that costs $1."

Soft drinks and iced tea were priced at $1.29, while iced coffee and frozen beverages were $2. Customers don't seem to be impressed by the menu changes, but the company's bottom line is certainly reaping the benefits.
