In recent years, the Glazer family has become the centre of criticism for their poor management and overspending on investments at Manchester United.

Under the Glazers, United have continued their tradition of being one of the biggest spenders in the transfer market, bringing in box office stars to pull on their famous red shirt. However, in recent years, the club has struggled to match their previous success, with the 2012-12 season the last time they won the Premier League.

The owners have faced severe backlash from fans who have organised multiple protests, including a stadium invasion at Old Trafford and the displaying of signs during high-profile matches. The most recent protest took place during a women's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, where fans chanted "We Want Glazers Out" while the game was temporarily stopped due to an injury suffered by PSG defender Oriane Jean-Francois.

The club has spent over £2billion in signings during the 21st century and we've rated the ten most expensive in the club's history under the leadership of the Glazers.

10. Bruno Fernandes: £56.7m

Transferred from: Sporting Lisbon
Transfer year: 2019

Ever since he joined the club, Fernandes has emerged as one of the club's most vital players and is now the team captain. He has played over 125 games and has become one of the primary sources for goals and assists. In April 2022, the Portuguese star signed a long-term contract with the club which is set to expire in 2026, but with the option of a further year.

9. Mason Mount: £60m

Transferred from:Chelsea
Transfer year: 2023

Mount has struggled at United since making his move from Chelsea. The 24-year-old has also had to deal with injuries, missing a month after appearing for the first two games of the Premier League season. The young midfielder was benched in games against Sheffield United, Copenhagen, and City during the Manchester derby. He came on for the second half of the match, making little impact.

8 . Casemiro: £63.6m

Transferred from:Real Madrid
Transfer year: 2022

Casemiro's experience from his time winning trophies at Real Madrid has been a valuable addition to Man United. He made his debut for the club as a substitute in a 1-0 win against Southampton and soon became an indispensable presence in midfield. He won the club's Player of the Month award twice, in October and May, demonstrating his importance to the team, but he has struggled to replicate his form this season.

7. Rasmus Hojlund: £65.4m

Transferred from: Atalanta
Transfer year: 2023

Before settling on Hojlund, ESPN reported United had a database of over 1,800 strikers on their search since losing Cristiano Ronaldo in a fallout made publicly through a Piers Morgan interview. Hojlund has a slow start to his career at Old Trafford thanks to injury but has started six games for United in his Premier League career, but is yet to score or provide an assist in domestic competitions, but has three goals to his name in the Champions League.

6. Angel Di Maria: £67.5m

Di Maria joined United after winning every major trophy in the sport at Real Madrid, scoring 36 goals in four years at the club. At United, Di Maria was unable to replicate his success, registering three goals and one assist in the Premier League. United finished fourth in the table during his time at the club in the 2014-15 season. The Argentine left the club the following season, winning a Ligue 1 trophy with PSG.

5. Romelu Lukaku: £76.2m

Transferred from: Everton
Transfer year: 2017

Lukaku did a serviceable job at United, scoring 16 goals in his first Premier League season with the team and 12 the following season. However, he left the club without winning a single trophy. The Belgian striker would go on to leave United and for stints with Chelsea and Inter Milan, where he would enjoy the most success of his career.

4. Jadon Sancho: £76.5m

Transferred from: Borussia Dortmund
Transfer year: 2021

Sancho was recently exiled from the Man Utd squad after his public feud with manager Erik Ten Hag. Despite his huge transfer fee, Sancho has only produced 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances with the team. Ten Hag said Sancho's performance in training is the reason that he hasn't been selected on matchday. He was listed as a substitute for the first three games of the year before being dropped.

3. Harry Maguire: £78.3m

Transferred from:Leicester City
Transfer year: 2019

Maguire lost his starting place once Ten Hag was appointed but the defender is not keen to leave the club, despite interest from West Ham over the summer. Maguire has been the subject of abuse from visiting fans, including when he plays for England, but has recently returned to the United side while Gareth Southgate has kept his faith in him for the national side.

2. Antony: £85.5m

Transferred from: Ajax
Transfer year: 2016

Antony has become the focal point for Manchester United fans who are questioning Ten Hag's recruitment decisions. Initially, supporters were in agreement with the former Ajax manager's approach of bringing in former players and opponents from the Dutch league under his guidance. Several pundits have criticised Antony's on-field effort in comparison to the amount the club paid for him. Even former Manchester United striker Andy Cole expressed his dissatisfaction with Antony's performances, stating that it would have "driven him crazy" to play alongside the 21-year-old.

1. Paul Pogba: £94.5m

Transferred from:Juventus
Transfer year: 2016

Pogba broke Manchester United's transfer fee record in 2016, having previously left the club for Juventus. After spending six years with the club, Pogba refused to sign another contract and eventually left in 2022 to rejoin Juventus. During his time at United, Pogba created 57 chances, completed 1,852 passes, and made 2,839 touches. He won the EFL Cup twice and helped United win the Europa League in the 2016-17 season, but never truly settled back in Manchester.
