Erik ten Hag trolled by Deliveroo as Man Utd boss given brutal new nickname

Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure as Manchester United manager and could do without takeaway titans Deliveroo sticking the boot in, but that's what they've done.

Ten Hag is enduring the toughest spell of his Red Devils reign and two successive 3-0 home defeats against Manchester City and Newcastle respectively have sparked speculation over just how long the Dutchman has left in the Old Trafford hot-seat. United have now lost eight games across all competitions this term, with five of those coming in the league.

Amid the uncertainty at boardroom level, it is unclear just how secure Ten Hag's position is. Reports emerged late on Thursday night claiming the club were exploring the idea of a different manager, though United swiftly denied such claims.

It seems that some already think he's destined for the chop, including Deliveroo, who poked fun at the United boss on social media. The company uploaded a picture of Ten Hag riding a bike with a brown bag in his hand, alongside a caption that read: “Good to see Ten Hag’s already preparing for his next role after Man United.”

While Deliveroo see the funny side in United's demise, Ten Hag has opted to come out and remind the media that he will not surrender his status as manager of the club without fighting tooth and nail to turn the tide."I am a fighter," Ten Hag said in his post-Newcastle news conference.

"I understand it when the results are not there it is also a logical process that they are questioning that. But I am confident I can do it. At all my clubs I have done it and also last year here I did it as well, but at this moment we are in a bad place.

"It is below the standards everyone expects from Manchester United," added the Dutchman. "It is not good enough by far. We have to put it right. I take responsibility for it. It is my team and they are not performing. I have to share it with my players, but I am responsible.

"As a team we are not good enough and whatever the reasons are, it is no space for excuses. We have to do things better and we have to raise our standards because otherwise you never get the right levels and performance and never get the results."

To add insult to injury, Ten Hag has also been given a new, rather unflattering nickname by ex-Chelsea man and pundit Chris Sutton. "Erik ten Games' is what I called him last week, and that was being optimistic," Sutton told BBC Sport as he predicted a draw for the Red Devils in their next game. A result that would stop the metaphorical bleeding, but do little to address the glaring wounds in the squad.

United have the chance to try and kickstart their season with a trip to Fulham on Saturday afternoon. Another defeat could see Ten Hag's side fall potentially 11 points behind fourth spot, while it would also put Fulham level on points with the Red Devils after 11 games played.
