Coronation Street's Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow, is set to leave the soap after a whopping 23 years.

During his time on the show, Peter has been involved in some of the most dramatic storylines, including being married to two women at the same time, having an affair with Tina McIntyre - who was later killed by Carla's brother Rob - and struggling with alcoholism.

Fans are speculating that Peter's exit might be linked to him hitting serial killer Stephen Reid with his taxi. Off-screen, Chris leads a much calmer life, happily married to Caroline Harding, with whom he shares a daughter, Belle. Caroline has also had roles in Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

Recently, the actress portrayed Dr Howarth, who cared for little Oliver Battersby and told the court that switching off his life support would be an act of kindness. Chris is also a step-dad to Caroline's two children from her previous marriage with Line of Duty actor Jason Watkins, Pip, 22, and Freddie, 24.

The couple live in a lovely home and although Chris doesn't post much on social media, some of his updates have given fans a peek inside. One photo, taken during lockdown and captioned "Busy staying home", shows Chris in what seems to be his living room.

Corrie bosses haven't confirmed or denied if Chris will return to the soap, but fans will soon see him in a different role. Chris will star in this year's pantomime at The Alban Arena. Chris will play Captain Hook in "The All New Adventures of Peter Pan A Pantomime Sequel".
