Pop star Kavana marked being 20 months sober with an inspirational message to anyone else struggling with addiction.

The singer, 46, looks so different now to his Nineties heyday and uploaded a candid before-and-after shot after taking his followers back to his lowest ebb last year. The former no one selling artist, whose real name is Anthony Kavanagh, is most famous for his 1997 hit I Can Make You Feel Good, which came out when he was just 20.

But he has struggled in recent years before deciding at the start of summer 2022 to turn his life around. Tweeting the snaps just over a year-and-a-half apart, he looks worlds away from the man struggling when he hit rock bottom. The singer told fans he is so pleased he asked for help when he did.

He was flooded with support after captioning the post: "On #AddictionAwarenessWeek2023 I want to make anyone struggling aware that recovery is possible. 20 months ago I was lost, broken and hopeless. Ask for help. I’m so glad I did. #wedorecover #NoShame #youcandoit."

One impressed fan told him: "So chuffed for you Anthony. You’ve been through hell and back, but you’ve got this! I hope you feel as amazing and proud as you look!" as another put: "Congratulations, what a transformation. You look amazing."

An emotional third follower told him: "Absolutely magnificent!! I’m seriously so filled with pleasure to see and know where you are right now!! You’ve worked so hard and the benefits are shining!! Yes, you certainly do recover!! All my love to you and those you love."

The singer first made the decision to quit booze in January 2021, but suffered a relapse 100 days into his recovery. In April last year he said he felt "guilty and sick" that he had let himself down and vowed to get back on the wagon. At the time he wrote: "Ok. I think it's important for me to be transparent about my recovery.

"I relapsed after 100 days of sobriety. I feel guilty and sick and I hate myself after letting the people I love down. I thought I knew better. I have to start again." A couple of weeks earlier, he had been celebrating being three months sober with his fans.

He wrote: "3 Months sober today. I've been here before but certainly feel a sense of freedom and clarity this time. If you are struggling there is no shame in reaching out, in fact it shows strength. And trust me - it helps." In addition to his singing career, Kavana, who came out as gay in 2014, appeared on MTV series Undressed in the Noughties.

He also had a recurring acting role as Will in Hollyoaks, came seventh in the 2015 series of Celebrity Big Brother and appeared on The Voice UK, but failed to get through the audition stage. The singer later joined forces with Adam Rickett, Gareth Gates, Dane Bowers and Kenzie to start a supergroup called 5th Story.
