Auschwitz Museum says it has lost over 6K followers since Israel-Hamas war began
The Auschwitz Museum has lost a staggering 6,100 followers on social media since the war between Hamas and Israel broke out on October 7.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the official account for the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp appealed for more engagement. The museum wrote: "Our account has lost over 6,100 followers in October. That's why we continue to ask for your engagement."
It continued: "You create this incredible community and help us all remember. Support @AuschwitzMuseum." Despite the fall in numbers, however, the account still boasts an impressive following of more than 1.5 million users on the platform. Hundreds of the followers spoke out in support, with one user declaring: "Keep up your great work, especially during this dark time."

Another commented: "Already following and have retweeted. Each time you send an image and short story about a victim, I always pause to acknowledge what was stolen from them. #NeverAgain must mean never again." And a third penned: "That's awful to hear. It is more important than ever that we remember, and do not let history repeat itself."

The museum's account states its aims are to commemorate victims, educate about history and preserve the authentic site. Every day it posts tributes to those who perished in the camp on their corresponding birthdays.
Their statement came as the account hit out at X after a user was allowed to create an account under the identity of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, who shot himself dead on April 30, 1945. The museum said it had blocked and reported the culprit, only to receive a response from Elon Musk's platform stating that no offence had been committed.
It read: "After reviewing the available information, we want to let you know AdolfHitler8740 hasn't broken our safety policies. We know this isn't the answer you're looking for. If this account breaks our policies in the future, we'll notify you." Meanwhile yesterday, US President Biden was interrupted while speaking at a fundraiser in Minneapolis by a protesting rabbi who yelled during his speech to "demand a ceasefire."
Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg, who lists herself as a 'reconstructionist' rabbi, as a national organizer at Bend the Arc: Jewish Action and as a collective member of the Radical Jewish Calendar project, interrupted Biden while speaking to yell, "As a rabbi I need you to call for a ceasefire right now!"
She was subsequently removed from the room. Biden addressed the crowd at that moment, saying earnestly: "I think we need a pause. A pause means give time to get the prisoners out," Biden said, in a rare call for a "humanitarian pause." Biden then continued to try and subdue the audience, saying: "I’m the guy that convinced Bibi to call for a ceasefire to let the prisoners out. I’m the guy that talked to [Egyptian President] Sisi to convince him to open the door."
