A hotel in a vintage UK seaside spot has been crowned the most luxurious places to stay in Europe.

The BLVD Hotel in Blackpool scooped up the award for Best Luxury Hotel in Northern Europe at the World Luxury Hotel Awards. It was chosen from over 2,000 nominees based on service delivery, luxury and presentation, as well as guest feedback.

The awards, now in their seventeenth year, were held at the Grand Hyatt Athens in Greece last weekend, and saw leading hoteliers from around the globe gather to celebrate the best in luxury hospitality. More than 300,000 international travellers voted over a four-week period.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards are seen as the pinnacle of achievement in the luxury hotel industry, reports Manchester Evening News. The Global Hotel of the Year award was meanwhile bagged by Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Thailand. In the UK, Barnsley House Hotel in the Cotswolds won Best Luxury Spa Hotel, The Caledonian in Edinburgh got Best Luxury Historical Hotel, and London's Waldorf Astoria was named Best Luxury City Hotel.

Klaus Spiekermann, General Manager at Boulevard, expressed his joy about their win and thanked staff for their hard work, saying: "BLVD is truly one-of-a-kind and being awarded in this way is testament not only to our wonderful surroundings, but to the dedication of our teams who consistently offer luxury to our guests."

He added: "While still a relatively new offering, being named the best luxury hotel in Europe confirms the unique and special destination we have built. Our intention has always been to set a new standard for luxury and this award means a great deal as we continue to establish ourselves as one of the UK's and now Europe's leading destinations."

Jana Stoman, executive manager for the World Luxury Hotel Awards, said: "Travelers today increasingly value experiences over possessions and are willing to invest in unique, authentic, and immersive travel experience. It is with the unwavering commitment of dedicated staff that guests can enjoy this. We congratulate the winners, who have worked hard and tirelessly to be successful in a very competitive industry."

The Boulevard Hotel, a £12m property with 120 luxury rooms, opened in Blackpool's Pleasure Beach amusement park in July 2019. It is next to the Big Blue hotel, and is said to offer stunning sea and funfair views from its 18 suites. Guests have given the hotel a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor, with some calling it 'Blackpool's Finest'. Users of the website praised its "beautiful" rooms, "very friendly" staff, and "great" location near the Pleasure Beach.

The hotel can cater for up to 200 people and has conference facilities. Its signature restaurant, The Beachside, serves dishes made from 'delicious, locally sourced' ingredients. The menu includes seaside-inspired dishes like Morecambe Bay Shrimp Ravioli, Lobster Sesame Toast and Seared Halibut Filet.
