A teenage boy has died following a Halloween party assault in Phoenix, Arizona that caused his heart to stop beating.

Preston Lord passed away on October 28 after being attacked by assailants, whose identities remain unknown. The youngster suffered a brain injury and reportedly collapsed at the party where friends attempted to resuscitate him by performing CPR.

After his heart reportedly restarted, Lord was rushed to Chandler Regional Hospital before being transferred to Phoenix Children's where he later died. Authorities have since appealed to the public for help in finding those responsible.

A Facebook post from Queen Creek Police Department read: "QCPD is seeking assistance in obtaining any video of subjects or vehicles in the area between Ocotillo/Chandler Heights and Sossaman/Hawes on Oct. 28 between 6 and 10 p.m. related to an assault." Whilst police didn't name the victim, Arizona Central identified him as Preston via a GoFundMe started by his family.

The fundraiser has been established to assist relatives with medical bills. In two days more than $66,000 of the $75,000 goal has been pledged. Appealing for help on the page on Saturday, Preston's aunt, Melissa, wrote: "First, thank you from the entire Lord family for all of the prayers, messages and love everyone has been sending. It is impossible to get back to everyone, but please know the messages are all read and mean so much."

She continued: While we can’t begin to fathom why something like this would happen to Preston, we know and see each day how much he is loved and the impact he has had on so many. Preston was assaulted Saturday night at a Halloween party. His heart stopped and CPR was performed by kids at the party who stepped in to attempt to save Preston’s life until emergency personnel arrived. They were able to restart Preston’s heart and he was taken to Chandler Regional hospital. He was then transferred to Phoenix Children’s in extremely critical condition with a severe brain injury.

"We know so many have been asking how they can help or what they can possibly do. We hope this site will be able to update everyone and a place people can post messages we will be reading to Preston. Please keep sending prayers and love to Nick, Autumn, and Tatum. Thank you for loving Preston and for your support, The Lord Family."

Two days later, however, Melissa confirmed Preston's tragic passing in an update. "Our sweet Preston passed away this afternoon surrounded by those that love and are going to miss him so much," she said. "We have no words for the support and love we have been shown. Thank you for loving us and our boy. As memorial service information unfolds I will be sure to post it."

The parents of one of Preston's close friends, Glen and Heather Jones later penned a heartfelt tribute to the teen on social media asking for prayers for his family. The post read: "I am literally at a loss for words… Jaxon and his buddies experienced a horrific, tragic situation that still seems like a terrible nightmare. One of Jaxon’s best friends was taken from this life way too soon. Preston passed away earlier this afternoon surrounded by his family. We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken for the loss of such an amazing young man. Please pray for his family as well as all his friends who already miss him dearly."
