It was the whodunit to end all whodunits - with the 'Wagatha trial' of Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney becoming one of the biggest tabloid news stories of the past decade.

Now a new Disney Plus series promises to lift the lid on the whole drama, with the highly anticipated original documentary “Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story” soon to be hitting our screens. The compelling three-parter is told through Coleen's recollections, including interviews with her family, legal team and key players involved.

The series, made by Dorothy Street Pictures, reveals how Coleen turned amateur online sleuth to find an explanation for why private stories concerning herself and her family continued to appear in the media. It examines the circumstances that led to her infamous Instagram post that ‘broke the internet’ all the way to Coleen successfully defending herself in one of the UK’s highest-profile High Court defamation cases of recent years.

As well as the case itself, it will explore how Coleen has had her life played out in public for the last 20 years. We of course know her as one of Britain’s most famous celebrities and wife of England’s record-scoring footballer Wayne Rooney.

Coleen, 37, is set to earn more money than her football manager husband Wayne after signing the multi-million pound deal with Disney+. However, it hasn't been all plain sailing for her, with insiders claiming the star ran the risk of being forced to change the working title of the new three-parter after Rebekah trademarked the iconic 'Wagatha Christie' phrase earlier this year.

It is said that Disney+ bosses had chosen 'Wagatha Christie: Coleen’s Story' to be the original title of the series. However, they have since been forced to change it following Rebekah's legal move.

"Becky’s clever trademarking of Wagatha Christie means she has got control of the situation. It’s pretty controversial of Disney to even consider using it because there is no way they’ll get it past Becky," a legal insider told The Sun.

Another source connected with those working on the Disney+ production told the publication: "Disney knows Coleen’s three-parter is going to be huge - so they don’t want anything getting in their way. The working title was decided a while back and if Becky is standing in their way, it would be a foolish move to try to take her on. The series speaks for itself in terms of how powerful and emotional it is, they don’t need unnecessary drama playing out around it.”

Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story will premiere on Disney Plus on Wednesday, October 18.
