Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil laughed off the idea that Manchester United's kits are responsible for their poor start to the season.

United's players have reportedly complained to club chiefs about this season's matchday kits because they are too tight. Some members of Erik ten Hag's squad have allegedly resorted to wearing replica kits, mounting pressure of manufacturer Adidas.

Both United and Adidas are yet to break their silence on the matter, but the story is gathering pace. Rangers legend McCoist and former United striker Brazil discussed United's controversial kits on talkSPORT's breakfast show on Wednesday morning.

The ex-footballers couldn't muster up any sympathy for United's struggling stars. After being told about the story, Brazil laughed: "It took me 18 minutes to get my jeans on this morning. Jill (his wife) washed them yesterday. Oh dear!"

McCoist, laughing, added: "To be fair, I know how these United players feel at this moment in time. Everything I put on is tight! I'm a minute each for a sock nowadays. Oh man, there's nothing worse. I've turned into (comedian) Billy Connolly, he says you start making noises when you put your clothes on. That's me. Ooooohhhh! Aaahhhhhh! Oooohhhh!"

Brazil joked he gets a hernia when putting his clothes on before sarcastically saying his "heart bleeds" for United's complaining stars. Brazil and McCoist were was asked whether they could appreciate the complaints. The latter said: "Oh come on."

McCoist then pretended to be one of United's complaining stars after a game. He laughed: "(Someone asks me), 'How did you get on?' You're not going to believe this, my shirt was too tight. It was a terrible. I couldn't get my kit over my body."

Brazil also got in on the act. He laughed: "I missed that chance. I was one on one with the keeper, but do you know what? I was uncomfortable."

It's claimed United goalkeeper Andre Onana has resorted to wearing a replica kit because his matchday jersey is too tight. Other players have complained, with some resorting to cutting holes in socks because they're too tight on their calves.

Adidas are expected to fix the problem within the next month, but not in time for United's Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle on Wednesday night. Ten Hag's side take on the Magpies at Old Trafford in a repeat of last season's final.

United have made a difficult start to the campaign. The Red Devils are eighth in the Premier League table after suffering home defeats to Brighton and Crystal Palace. They've also struggled in the Champions League, losing to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
