A Toby Carvery has been slammed after the restaurant "ran out of meat" during service on Boxing Day.

A diner at the branch in Endon, Staffordshire, claims they had to wait over two hours for their main course after already having eaten their starter.

The popular Plough eatery got a one star kicking on TripAdvisor after the chaotic experience.

The customer had started their meal at 3pm on Boxing Day when they say they were told that there was no meat left.

They later found some beef and chicken, but it meant their main course was not served up until 5.10pm, StaffordshireLive report.

The angry diner described their visit as an 'absolute disgrace'.

The reviewer states: "We arrived on Boxing Day at 3pm and were served our starters - only then to be told that there was no meat available for the carvery. We were asked to wait for the next sitting. Finally at 5.10pm we were offered food.

"It was absolutely atrocious and we were then expected to pay the full bill. The desserts were extremely poor and cold. I have now contacted head office as this is just not acceptable."

Toby Carvery said they are "aware" of the complaint.

The firm said: "We are disappointed to hear that you are not satisfied with your visit. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will use your comments to refine our efforts to ensure this issue does not happen again."

It comes as diners and community leaders are calling for the venue at The Plough pub to get a facelift both internally and externally.

Toby Carvery has previously responded by promising customers an 'enhanced experience' at the under-fire pub and restaurant.

It wasn't the only festive feast that didn't go to plan.

A furious family looking forward to Christmas Day lunch at a gastro pub ended up going home to have jacket potatoes after waiting an hour for their table.

One of the group posted on TripAdvisor under the name 'roff', to say Saxon Mill pub in Warwick had "ruined Christmas Day" for them.

The person said others appeared to be waiting a long time to be seated as well and some of those that did get food complained of wrong orders arriving or dishes arriving cold.

Writing their review on the website, roff said: "Just awful from Start to finish. 3.45pm booking. Arrived at 3.30pm to find a queue outside and a bunch of people gathered in a cattle area!

"Bad vibes all round as they had all been waiting a long time already. Overall we waited an hour and in the end asked for a refund and went home (30 minutes away) and had a jacket potato.

"Completely ruined our Christmas day. We have been out many times for Christmas day dinner and cheaper than this place and NEVER have we been treated like this. The poor waitresses were running around and not one senior member of staff addressed us waiting."

A spokesperson for The Saxon Mill told The Express. : "We are disappointed to hear that we were unable to accommodate the family promptly on Christmas Day.

"Unfortunately, due to unexpected operational pressures including a much smaller team than we had planned for, the team working on the day were doing the best they could to cater for all guests."
