Manchester United's legends can help revive the form of Marcus Rashford.

That's the view of former Red Devils striker Dimitar Berbatov, who has urged Erik ten Hag's struggling talisman to reach out to Paul Scholes and Gary Neville for some timely advice. Rashford has mustered just one goal in 12 outings for United in all competitions this term heading into the Manchester derby and Berbatov wants to see consistency from the England international.

"Taking him out of the team is not the solution," said Betfair Ambassador Berbatov. "My advice would be to reach out to Scholesy or Gary Neville - players that have not only been at United a long time but players that delivered season after season.

"It's worth asking them how they did it over 15 to 20 years, performing every time because he's going through a real rough patch. Maybe that's the answer."

Berbatov also suggests Rashford looks like a different player when he's on the field for England having recently netted in the 3-1 triumph over Italy at Wembley. The Bulgarian was optimistic Rashford would return to United full of confidence following the strike but surprisingly, that was not the case.

Berbatov added: "Ten Hag could probably speak to Rashford and ask 'what's the difference when you play under my leadership and when you go with the national team?' If Ten Hag can identify what makes him click there - perhaps he can replicate it at United. Rashford has been in the United starting XI for a long time now so there is a strong likelihood that he feels complacent."

Berbatov also paid tribute to the resilience of Harry Maguire following his decisive Champions League winner against FC Copenhagen in midweek. Maguire has had to bear the brunt of mockery, abuse and criticism in his quest to turn his United career around, but Berbatov hopes his match-winning heroics on Tuesday are a step in the right direction.

The 42-year-old added: "As a former football player I was so pleased to see somebody who has endured so much criticism enjoy a moment of redemption. I sincerely hope Harry Maguire can now be appreciated even more and that this is the start of something.

"He needs to stay concentrated and refrain from overcomplicating things. He just needs to take the ball, pass it and avoid making mistakes because then fans will make your life miserable again."
