It centres on teenager Jamie Hughes (Kiernan Shipka), who, 35 years after the grisly murder of three teens, accidentally travels back in time to stop the masked killer’s spree before it happens. With the help of her teen mother and her friends, Jamie must navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of 1987 and take down the killer before she’s stuck in the past forever.

An American Werewolf In London

One of the most iconic horrors of its time, John Landis’ 1981 classic follows American backpackers David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) who arrive in Northern England for a walking tour. During a nighttime trek across the Yorkshire moors, the friends are attacked by a violent beast which brutally kills Jack.

Weeks later, an undead Jack returns to warn David that a werewolf was their assailant, and that he is now a werewolf too.

The Exorcist

This propulsive psychological thriller is a modern reinvention of the franchise inspired by William Peter Blatty’s original 1971 book. Picking up after the events of the iconic 1973 film, The Exorcist follows two priests dealing with cases of a demonic presence targeting a family and a foster home.

The series was well received upon release despite flying under the radar in the UK. Its second season earned a perfect 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is sure to be enjoyed by fans of the late William Friekin’s horror classic.

Dead Ringers

A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller, Dead Ringers features Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle. In this dark tale, the Mantle twins are gynaecologists who share everything: Drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes – including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics – in an effort to change the way women give birth.

Rec

Fans of the found-footage genre will love this terrifying Spanish horror. Billed as “28 Days Later meets The Blair Witch Project,” Rec follows news reporter Ángela (Manuela Velasco) and her cameraman Pablo as they cover the night shift in a Barcelona firehouse.

What starts out as an ordinary night becomes a hellish nightmare as a virus turns the inhabitants of an apartment building into a horde of frenzied ghouls. Rec’s disturbing documentary style adds to its sense of claustrophobia, as viewers are immersed in the violent ordeal.

Final Destination

The first chapter in the gruesome franchise centres around American high-schooler Alex. When the lucky teenager has a premonition that the plane he and his classmates are about to board is going to explode, he throws a fit and gets him and his friends kicked off the flight.

To everyone’s horror, the plane explodes shortly after take-off. As the group begins to die mysteriously one by one, the remaining survivors must try to figure out what is going on before they join the other victims.
