A young woman has shared a video of what she claims was "an uncomfortable first date " where she was told she wasn't pretty enough to get a free meal and should offer to pay. The man suggested she discreetly slide her card under the table to make it look like he had paid, as he "has a reputation to maintain" in the restaurant but that she should be paying for her own dinner.

The video, made by Winta Zesu, appears to be staged but reflects the dating scene in New York City, where she lives and works. After watching, some men felt the need to criticise the video, saying it unfairly represented dating culture, however, they were quickly shut down by women watching the video.

In the clip, 21-year-old Winta can be seen trying to enjoy her food while a man can be heard speaking to her in the background. At first, he scolds her saying that she's eating "eating too quickly". "The food's not going anywhere, are you enjoying this date or not, I feel like you're just eating and then gonna leave," the man says off camera.

He then questioned if she even liked Italian food before telling her she would be paying for the meal. When she tells him that she "didn't bring her card" and couldn't pay for the meal, he calls her un-ladylike and says it was bad manners to expect the man to pay.

Winta responds by asking him why he would take her out if he didn't want her to eat, with him replying that he wanted to talk and get to know her - not actually eat in the restaurant. After bombarding her with yet more questions, he then adds: "I thought you were rich. You told me you come from a wealthy family."

The video continues with the man asking if her designer purse is real, and that he thought she was taking him out. In the end, the video finishes with her asking him to stop. She told him: "I am trying to eat and leave."

While most viewers said they thought the video was staged, they couldn't help but feel it was uncomfortably accurate about New York's dating scene, sparking a heated debate in the comments section.

One man said, "I know this is a skit, and I know this guy is a tool. But there's some truth to what he's trying to convey. Many girls really do just accept dates to go out and get free food.' He added, 'It's very hurtful and dehumanizing for a guy to really like you and have to sit through a whole dinner that he knows you only showed up to because he was going to pay.'

He shared his experience of a date where a woman obviously wasn't interested and left when the entrees arrived - wishing her well - and explained he wasn't going to sit around and watch her eat for free. However, others had a different view - with many calling the man toxic and telling her to "run".

One woman wrote: "Everything that came out of his mouth was wrong- please tell me this is staged because that sounded like toxic masculinity at its worst.". And another viewer shared, "This sounds like my toxic ex. He made me pay for everything for two years and told me how lucky I should feel to be with him."

Another person warned: "I once went on a date where the guy told me his card did not work and that he would send me the money back but he never did lmao. To all girls out there, never pay for a dude if he is not your man. Total waste of money."

Some people praised her. One comment read: "Boss moment 'can you stop talking I'm trying to eat.' Absolute assassination to his ego that was unfortunately necessary." But other women said they would have left much earlier on in the meal.
